  • Hi, Thanks for the reply. the problem with the canonical is that I cannot edit the services/57/ page with wordpress because as soon as I click edit it goes to edit the /services/ page. For the yoast canonical to work i would need to add in the real url into the /57/ page of which I cant do , or am i wrong there? The problem also is that I can add any number apart from /57/ and they all lead back to /services/. At the moment Google has only indexed both /services/ and /service/57/ Thanks

  • This is not an SEO question per se, it is really a business question.  How do you need to organize your wallpapers to give you the information you need with your business. Depending on how you generate your revenue you may want to organize by type of phone, etc.  Tools like Google Analytics will sort things by folder and so if you build in a logical structure for your business model, you can then use the insights to help your business. Example, if you were paid depending on the type of theme, then you would need to organize around themes.  If you simply wanted to see what themes as a group were the most popular, then organize by themes.  Lots of things to consider.  How do your users think about browsing wallpapers?  Setup your directories so that it makes sense to them when they are browsing your site or looking at your URL in the SERPs. That said, I would organize by folder.  Helps when you need to analyze traffic to the site if things are in logical organized folders.  Also makes it easy to group. Good luck!

  • The drop in your site traffic may be due to a number of things, not just links on the page.  If you restructured your URLs, changed title tags, etc etc. There can be lots of reasons besides number of links on the page.  You now have a new site that Google is trying to sort out and so you may simply have a little drop in the SERPs. If you have the tools, look and see if your ranking did drop and monitor that.  Also use your analytics to see where the drop is coming from.   • I agree that the 301 redirect from the old site to the new would be the simplest to transfer the equity (if you did not want to set it up as a division of the original site).  You would need to make sure that you spend a lot of time getting the 301 mapping from the old site to the new site correct - otherwise it would not be worth it.

  • There was no effect on the rankings, no significant ups or downs.  But now when I do the site:www.domain.com command in Google, I see just the pages that I want Google to index. It can only help in the long run I guess.

  • A 301 will transfer those unwanted inbound links to the new url.  You'll essentially have the same problem. A google employee said recently that if you want to disavow inbound links, you should make the target page 404.  So create a new url for the "damaged" pages, but don't 301 them.  Let the "damaged" pages go to a hard 404 (no softies).

  • Wouldn't having sub-domains make each sub-domain rank better in serps for each individual thing. In this case construction software, IT services, & graphic design? Each sub-domain could be built better to have more relevance for each individual category instead of having to split the "google juice" into all three. I'm sure there is a lot of content that each domain would still have, and since it would be staying on close to the same topic, it has an opportunity to make it further in the serps. It would be better for starting to create a "SEO Empire" This is an article I think I found off this forum, or maybe an article on SEOmoz somewhere.   • The above sounds a bit spammy, I agree.... I hope that my competitors are signing up for this.  I hope that they all buy six-packs. however the success they have had with such activity with other websites has been fantastic. lol.... Right!  The penguins are loving it..

  • Yep, I think that is pretty much on the money. Also, if you want reviews, you could always put them in sub folders and geotarget the sub folders as well so. www.yoursite.com/en-reviews/ www.yoursite.com/fr-reviews/ Then, if you add these folders in webmaster tools and geo target them you should keep everything nice and clean and avoid the wrath of whatever white and black animal Google unleash upon the web next!   • Have some worthy of linking back (Link Bait). If the site sells shoes, you could be a page with conversion charts between US/UK shoes sizes, a guide for taken care of leather on shoes, different ways to tie shoelaces and etc. Once created get the word out on your social media and hopes of getting some inbound links.

  • Hey Anthony, I would suggest that this is just as applicable to Author or Organisation and really, I would not even be looking to index these secure pages & I would only use Author on a specific piece of content and organisation on a contact page or some such page about the business. I have to say I am no expert on Schema but it was my understanding that the idea is to mark up individual pages to provide additional relevance. That is, your whole site does not contain microdata about the organisation and as such you would not want to display such a snippet of information. Likewise, your shopping cart is not published by a specific author. Disclaimer, I am no expert here but will be interesting to see what other's have to say. Marcus
