  • Thank you Ryan. They completely ignored the meta tags., completely messing up our serps. So I put it back in robots. I wont trust google again to do the right thing.

  • If you purchase the paid version ($20) you can create an XML sitemap for unlimited number of pages - http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/standalone-google-sitemap-generator.html Also you can use other software i.e. a1 sitemap generator or crawler based software such as Xenu or Screaming frog to create your XML sitemap. However my recommendation would be for you to create individual XML sitemaps per category. Whilst it is not necessary, it will improve the likeliehood of search crawlers better understanding your sites hierarchy, according by product platform. This will help search engines index the maximum number of pages possible. Don't forget to also create an image sitemap. Hope this helps, Vahe

  • Unfortunately, I'm not an expert on rewriterule. Would it be:  RewriteRule ^/directory$ / http://www.website.com [R=301,L]

  • By using the 301 redirect, you have negated the effect of the cannonical tag. You should only user the cannonical tag when you have difficulties using the 301 redirect. That's why you are getting an error. Best to only stick with the 301. Hope this helps, Vahe

  • Thanks Zkwarta.  We're looking to specifically pull in our Merchant Rating from Google Product Search.  Good to hear that the university ratings are working well for you.  Cool site!

  • For performance and security reasons, I would stay away from using .htaccess files unless you don't have other options. If you can be sure that the pages on the new domain will be the same, and you won't be changing them anytime soon, it should be as simple as doing the 301 in Webmaster Tools. It depends somewhat on how complex your search parameters are for your products, but (at least in theory) that should do it. I attached a video that is related... not a direct answer, but does have useful info on the subject. QyQs3tz7ZKo

  • Ryan, as long as you don't use more then 1 redirect per page not one browser will coze problems. I had a problem with htaccess once beceause i redirected more then 1 variation of a page to the same new page and that generated errors in Safari, Mozilla and Chrome but not IE 8.x.. You should be fine for now.

  • As a general rule of thumb the more higher your content is placed in the page source, the more accessible it is for search engines. This ensure they correctly pull the right page info and meta data. Taking a quick glance of your source code, I definantly think your externalise all JS in a single file to remove the amount of bloated code which currently exists. Also two more things: (1) Further optimise your page. More people would search for multi color function printer than a refurbished printer. Make sure you conduct keyword research for all product pages. (2) Even though  this is not as important, none the less reduce the number of h2 & h3 heading tags you are using, particularly the links with the headings in the "supplies and accessories" section as it is not necessary. Hope this helps, Vahe

  • You are very kind, Robert (any your t-shirt sounds cool! hahah) I did think those articles were awesome, but they aren't very well-known. And, BTW, my cup of tea is...a cup of tea, organic with a little maple syrup, please!
