  • Got it to work with this: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} \maindomain.com$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.addondomain.com/ [R=301,L] Thanks for the help!  Thumbed and marked as good answer!

  • What you are showing me is 1 paragraph with a bunch of links. It's not normal. I don't think there is an "anchor link percent" factor, but you are clearly trying to game Google's algorithm to pass link juice. Make it natural.

  • Many thanks Ben - and sorry for slow response! I'm now planning on doing a simple hand coded re-write for some key terms, and monitoring the results/impact. Good call re: slow site is much worse than ugly URLS - totally agree on that. A migration is inevitable, its a case of 'when' not if (CMS is bespoke and ageing) and I'm hoping re-writes/re-directions on some of the higher traffic pages may help reduce the hit when the migration happens. Cheers Simon

  • I wouldn't worry about it. Your site is indexed in Google and is, likely, cached. Just because Google's cache: operator isn't working properly for you at the moment isn't a real cause of concern.

  • Well following on from Dr Petes timely blog i have done the following: For all faceted navigation by color I have added  noindex, follow meta tags to remove these pages- i also removed the rel canonical tag from these pages as I was not sure that having a noindex and pointing to a vanilla category page as the canonical version was too clever. I have modified my rel canonical to point to the correct page for all paginated pages. Assuming the above is better than my previous state of affairs how can i solve the following? My main category navigation has faceted filter by color links for each category. Tnis adds around 100 extra links on each page sitewide. How can i reduce the negative impact of having so many links in my global nav short of removing them? Can in use some sort of javascript to perform the navigation? Thanks

  • Google has ignored a robots.txt for my site because it thought we were "hiding" important content. Depending on your site structure, putting a "no index" tag on your page is also a good idea. Doing that as pages are built can prevent it (better) from being indexed in the first place. Then you remove the tag when you are ready to go live. And, submit your updated sitemap via GWT when you finish your move so Google will know what pages to index.

  • The 301 redirect helps Google remove duplicate content, so it is highly unlikely that it will be considered spam. If the two sites are similar but target different geo-locations, you might want to look up the rel="alternate" hreflang="" method... http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=189077

  • We were scheduled to update last Friday, but have had a delay that we wrote about at https://seomoz.zendesk.com/entries/21655043-mozscape-index-update-temporarily-delayed-until-july-6th. You can always check out the update calendar linked from the OSE home page as well to see when the next update is scheduled and the date of our last update.

  • cheers keri, i have read the information and i am now putting it in place and see how things move along. i have gone through all the 404s and i have found that i am losing around 9,000 links. it will take me a long time to get all the links in the htacess file. and i am just about to post a question about my hosting company as they are telling me that i need a new server over this so i am not sure if i should stick with them or move my site, but anyway, thanks for the help on this 404 problem

  • Sorry for confusions. By search results I thought you might have been specifically talking about putting keywords into a site search and getting the results page. I've noindexed that page. What you've said makes sense. Thanks Peter.

  • By a blog do you mean on your site or an external one? If it were me I would make sure this content resides on my website but would not care so much about the delivery system as long as it is indexable. Your username makes me want to go download Labcabincalifornia
