  • thanks for that kerry. yes i read that the other week after your suggestion and that is why i have been pointing the links to the right section. But what i have been thinking of, because the home page is the latest news and articles, i am wondering if i should point some of the links to the home page to help me increase in page rank. as most of the links could be classed as relevant to the home page. i have about 5,000 links to carry on with, so not sure if i should choose around 800 of these links and have them to the home page. This is my problem, i have a lot of links coming from the same sources, so for example we get a great deal of traffic from huffington post, they comment on a lot of our articles and produce our articles on their site, so if i have 100 links from them coming from different pages on their site, would it be a good idea to have these pointing to my home page or just choose one link to go to the home page. i would recommend people reading the article above as it produces great advice on what to do with the links many thanks keri

  • I have it added to every page and I do think it helps with CTR. One concern some have had, however, is that if you ever want to sell your site, then it is branded to you.

  • I recently came across an article that also stated it had no SEO value, and I have never personally seen it to bear any value as well. I'd say you'd be safe to bet that it didn't -Dan

  • Thanks, Donnie - I will keep checking.  As long as it balances out towards the top, I'll be happy (-:

  • Thanks! It turned out that it just needed to be indexed or cached and showed up after about a week.

  • we get a great deal of traffic from huffington post as they run with a lot of our stories which is great, so a huge amount of traffic from there and from other sites. But i want to try and tap into the bookmarking sites as well as the ping services

  • Hey G, what are the results from the sitemap, also make sure to check the compatibility of your plugins, caching, etc.

  • Hi Guido, Firstly I would perhaps look at changing from a subdomain to a subfolder e.g. http://www.zenucchi.it/poltronafraubrescia or http://www.zenucchi.it/poltrona-frau-brescia There are, of course, certain situations where a subdomain is more appropriate but in your case I believe a subfolder would be more appropriate. You will find that the subfolder will benefit from the added authority of your domain whereas the current subdomain configuration means that you are losing valuable authority here. I would also advise on having a good mix of brand anchor links as well as commercial i.e. have anchors containing Zenucchi or http://www.zenucchi.it as well as poltrona frau brescia. Another thing I would look at improving is your on-page optimization. There are quite a few things you could improve so won't go through everything but I notice you don't have the key term 'poltrona frau brescia' in a h1 tag, maybe consider doing this. Hope this helps.

  • Nope, I don't think it is applicable, the content is the picture, that is the content, so that is not thin content and they are duplicated or similar to other pages on the site. It may be worth making sure you have all your taxonomies sorted and are not showing the same pages in various locations but beyond that, you are good to go (I can show you how to do that in like 5 minutes if it helps).

  • Hi Russ, thanks for yiur help, made things clearer to me! One last question concerning the linking of the content: if we noindex all pages with less than x words, we can still put the links on dofollow, or doesn't it make sense? Because if we create an overview page with the latest questions on it, it should be good for G and our users. So if we link to all latest threads (index and noindex), the users and G will find all the relevant content, G can follow the links on the noindexed pages and finds other content and so on... Or doesn't it make sense to you? I am just worried that we will have many pages with small content and the Q&A will look empty to both G and our users...

  • I searched the name from your profile along with the words lose weight, and I think I found the problem. Are you actually asking about loseweight-longterm.com ? I think we were all looking at the wrong website.

  • Thanks Saijo, We are trying to silo product types/categories and break them into different sitemaps. I'm familiar with SF but I don't think it will create sitemaps with the granularity that we are looking for. I'm using XMLSpy but I'm finding it hard to break out blocks of content.

  • Correct! I show a teaser preview from the actual content on the homepage. The excerpt I write as a brief summary of what the article is about. Best of luck!
