  • I can open text file but Godaddy told me robots.txt file is not on my server (root level). Also told me that my site is not crawled because robot.txt file is not there. Basically all of those might have resulted from plug in I was using (term optimizer) Based on what Godaddy told me, my .htaccess file was crashed because of that and had to be recreated. So now .htaceess file is good. Now I have to figure out is why my site is not accessible from Googlebot. Let me know Keith if this is a quick fix or need some time to troubleshoot.  You can send me a message to discuss about fees if nessary. Thanks again

  • Hi Rick, If you are want to alert only about the blog then select blogs and only best results. I suggest to modify your search query which is highly relevant to your search query, because i have also setup many alerts for pulling info about different blogs but i had never face this type of error.

  • What about associations with other local businesses, any sponsorships and events? Are there any local events that the business gets involved in or are related to the business? Is there anything specific/unique about the different customers at different locations? How can you tune the content to target/engage this particular demographic. Are their any landmarks or well known places you can talk about (while you visiting x why not pop in for a y...) And as EGOL said, I definitely agree that you need to get the people who know the area and know their customers to provide (and maintain) the content. Can you do this in a way that raised their profile, boosts their ego and motivates them rather than just lumbering them with something else to do? It's a great opportunity to promote their business to their customers...

  • I don't see anything specific on it. Id' ask Bing's Duane Forrester via Twitter twitter.com/DuaneForrester Process in the past: "If you would like to be considered for bing news, please mail your request to bns@microsoft.com" http://www.bing.com/community/webmaster/f/12251/p/649275/9545500.aspx Bing's Duane Forrester on Webmaster Tools, Metrics, and Sitemap Quality Thresholds http://www.seomoz.org/blog/bings-duane-forrester-on-webmaster-tools-metrics-and-sitemap-quality-thresholds

  • Pranav, I suspect you are misinterpreting what has been said and you are also getting your words confused. Characters are different to words. For example the url http://www.this-is-an-example.com has four words (this is an example) and 33 characters. What you have been saying is that character number 1 has more weight than character 33. This is inaccurate. What I believe you are trying to say, is what Matt Cutts mentions in the interview you posted, that multiple keywords in a URL are given less weight after about the fourth or fifth keyword. I suggest that you read the articles you quote more carefully before offering erroneous advice.

  • Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.  That makes so much sense.  This is also the issue I am having with my communities and cities pages, pointing at my http://luxuryhomehunt.com/homes-for-sale page. Does that make sense?

  • Mat's got your answer. Try it out and you should be in business.

  • Yes. It does not contain a nofollow-directive, so it'll work out. The onclick-eventhandler is used for linktracking. Users who have javascript disabled and search engines get a "real" link, while users who have javascript enabled will run the linkClick-function (which will probably ping the server or run a script that will redirect to the url).

  • Hi David! Yes they will leak "SEO juice" <- don't like the phrase either! To be safe from Google I would make sure these banner ads had rel="nofollow". Since google has changed the rules to prevent PR sculpting the banner ads will still leak link juice (just not to the site linked to).

  • If you have CPANEL, you should be able to access it there. Some other server access systems may also drop a copy into a directory you can access, you may be able to look around in your panel's file manager - look in your local root directory/logs

  • Are these pages identical, but just reached via different paths (based on category/sub-category navigation)? If so, the canonical tag is definitely a good choice here. Ideally, it's best not to create duplicate paths, as it can cause long-term problems, but in lieu of that, canonical is probably your best defense.

  • These are not so bad pages, they are catalog pages, must be there with noindex, follow tags. Going grey isn't an option unfortunately - there are ~50,000 of them.

  • ** duplicate content doesn't come into play ** **I was referring to the category pages when I said "duplicate content". Because the category pages (for similar tags) are identical (some of them) and they are indexed.  **

  • That's a good set of resources indeed. I would move forward an update part of those pages - step by step. (as long as you don't go overboard - keep the links on subject, don't over optimize and linkenize Is it worth updating all these old, previously indexed catalogues with better keyword juice and more relevant links ? ** Relevant links yes. metter keyword juice no as you would have the tendency to over optimize. Keep it very simple and easy as those pages with new links could indeed bring a lot of value. Again, it should really be done step by step an you should monitor the results - going overboard it might back fire. Would they even get re-visited by google ? ** If those pages don't have any updates the crawl rate is probably low but they will get updates. You can always help with a ping, build a sitemap and submit via your Web master tools account too. You can also check when google bot visited some of those pages if you have access to the logs.

  • Yes, it has to be a configuration entry in your host file with your website hosting company.

  • Thanks for the reply George. That makes a lot of sense. I guess we will have to just police it manually to make sure that people are not removing the link when embedding in their sites.
