  • Hi Upcounsel Since that isn´t part of site´s hierarchy, enfasizing the importance of that element over the URL´s content, i would avoid the use of that H1 tag; it will never help and is gonna limit your content from having a good defined hierarchy Well....as Fredrik says....you already knew this one! Best!

  • Frist you asked "If I add canonical references from the shopping cart product pages and articles back to product.com associated pages, will this lessen the blow to any seo issues? What other factors am I missing/need to consider" the answer to that is yes it will significantly help you. Is buymyproduct.com a completely separate domain from your other domain?  If is you are going to suffer some duplicate content issues until you address the response of phone/website issue I just built a e-commerce website based on Genesis framework with with Woocommerce I can tell you that canvas 5 the new one for woocommerce can essentially replicate any website out there with the developer for about $30 a page. And that site is 100% responsive I would use http://demo.woothemes.com/?name=canvas  with Woo commerce Magento is becoming a  dinosaur that does not perform well with SEO or on a quick server. Do yourself a favor and move to WordPress you'll be shocked at how good they are. I recommend the host like WP engine or zippy kid

  • I know a decent amount about security and I know I do not trust just  Google webmaster tools to rid myself of malware. Regardless of rather you did everything perfectly you can still have times of malware on your computer that you are not yet aware of intentionally hiding from your system. use a free very accurate anti-malware system to check if it is infected. I should tell you I mean free to check not free to fix but at $80 a year and they will fix as many pages as it takes as many times as it takes in one year it is a true bargain. http://sucuri.net/ You might also want to consider using better hosting if you're using WordPress. I would strongly suggest WP engine, ZippyKid, websynthesis.com or Page.ly ( WP engine and Page.ly have pro discounts through SEOmoz) the other thing unique about them is each of them uses server-side http://sucuri.net/ if you want I will be happy to run your URL if not please run it through the URL here http://sucuri.net/ it looks like they told you to use this product however you're running WordPress.com which is not quite the same as regular WordPress however website is a website. I hope I was of assistance to you, Thomas

  • Moosa and co. Thanks. Our Domain is also our brand minus the .com so we have been adding the .com. Our CMS has been auto adding to all page titles since day 1 and we are now looking to change this practice. Thanks again and welcome any other suggestions.

  • Per Svanstrom, This is a great way of thinking of it and you answer makes a lot of sense to me. In case someone finds this later looking for Magento Category advice - what you see in many magento seo posts is to not use categories in the path due poor native canonical handling especially when products end up in multiple category paths.  It seems a lot better plan to follow the functionality advice of Per's post and just fix  the canonical problems in the design or by adding an extension.

  • Google states that speed win , In 2010 Marissa Mayer discuss about Site speed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQwAKsFmK_8 You can use webmaster and install site speed using firefox the link is under Labs. And in analytics go to site content then site speed to get the data. To increase your site speed. You need to make sure that your css is clean and the images are properly optimise, And most importantly your hosting provider Which tier network does your server resides, Tier 2 i would prefer as the have just one hop count from the backbone so  you get good speed. Would recomend Rackspace in US.

  • I'd say one thing that could be causing this is domain age. Is the competitor's site significantly older and more well-established? Another factor could be your engagement. What's your bounce rate? This is definitely part of Google's algorithm. Are people finding what they want? Do you have on-site search? If so, are you getting a lot of searches with "zero" results? One last thing could be the number of years you've registered your domain. If you've registered yours for 2 and your competitor has registered their's for 10, that could be a factor. One last thing. Where is your site hosted? Are you on a shared server? What is the reputation of the other sites sharing that server? If your competitor is on a dedicated server and you are on a shared server with other sites with questionable or low reputations, that could be dragging your site down. I know that's a lot of factors, but each one could make a significant difference. Hope that helps a bit! Dana

  • Yes, I would do the removal request.  I've had pages where I've noindexed them and months later they are still in the index.  Sometimes it takes AGES to get them removed unless you actually tell Google to do it via WMT.

  • A viable solution, but I don't want to be too covert about it.

  • Hi! I don't know why my fellow associate here is saying you have to put your spanish version of the site in a separate domain. The ideal should be for us to have a look to your site in order to judge and really try helping you. In general, a multilingual site - if everything (paginations, faceted navigations, thin content, duplicated and substantially duplicated content) is fine - should not have problem just because it is multilingual. The only reasons why we can see duplicated content across all languages is when, for instance, not everything has been translated in spanish. A classic can be the news or blog posts, which maybe the site produce just in english but present in every language mirror and the site has such a bad arquitecture to present URLs like these: www.domain.com/blog/post.html www.domain.com/es/blog/post.html www.domain.com/fr/blog/post.html where post.html is actually the same post but URL duplicated 3 times. But, apart those cases (quite extreme, even though - I assure you - existing), a multilingual site per se is not a reason for a Panda penalization. Penguin, than, is all about links, so - again - I don't see a causation or correlation between multilingual site and Penguin. I mean... if a multilingual site has been hit by Penguin is not because its multilingual, but because it has an anchor text overoptimized link profile. Then... a subcarpet or an external domain? It depends from your marketing needs. If you are thinking to expand strongly in a foreign market, somehow to make it a distinct entity respect the original one, then to create a new site in a new domain name (generic if you target a language, cTld if you target a country) is maybe the best choice. But in your case the choice to have it inside your main domain seems ok to me. Finally, to make things clear. If multilingual site was a problem, surely Google would have started deprecating its use (and it is not doing that, all the contrary) and Brands like Apple would not create their site using that style (try to go to www.apple.es and see what happen...)

  • George provided a great link. You certainly need to be aware of the amount of links and anchor text you are putting out in the world. I believe Cyrus Shepard mentioned a very good alternative to carpet bombing footer links inside a template you made "... instead of a footer link, how about a single, well placed editorial link somewhere on a real page? (this might be hard to manage with some of your clients, but it's worth a shot).." I like this option because I am personally of the impression that if you are paid to develop a website then you should also be up front about any other benefit you receive by doing so, and a link (advertisement) is certainly a benefit to you. This could and should IMO be negotiated in a professional manner with the client. Now if you are just selling templates ala template monster or a similar site, then I would remove my name from it period. Since you can't control what happens to the template after it is downloaded. Hope that helps.

  • Does Google slipt the rank of: example.com/index.php example.com/ Nope, they choose the best page to show people. If you add different content to different pages does google rank them differently? Yes. You know what you need to do.

  • Hi Kane No you have got it in a nutshell.  I've just missed that logical summation in my general confusion with juggling too many commitments. Thank you for helping the confused:)
