  • First I'd confirm that the site actually has no ranking keywords. Moz's keyword index isn't as strong as its backlink index, so you might want to scan the site (at the domain level) in tools like Ahrefs keyword explorer or in SEMRush (to help confirm whether there's a real lack of ranking keywords or not). If the site really doesn't rank for anything, I'd question whether they had manipulated their DA and I probably wouldn't go for the backlink

  • Hey Carrie, The first thing I would do is figure out which version is already indexed by Google or like other Mozzers have stated pick the version with the higher page authority according to Moz. Also, in the event, your CMS doesn't handle the trailing slash issue you can update your Htaccess file to set up dynamic redirects to whichever version you prefer. Daniel Morell has a good guide on htaccess SEO specifically there's a section on how to force trailing slash within the htaccess file. Good luck

  • There are several factors that you need to check to determine whether a backlink is positive or negative for the SEO of the site. Whenever you consider disavowing a backlink you should be very careful and take all factors into account, because if you disavow backlinks that are positive to your site, your rankings will decrease. That is why Google has "hidden" the link disavow tool. The main factors that you should take into account are: Domain Authority Page Authority Spam Score Relevancy You can read more about it in my answer here. • Yes that was the question, thank you. It is correct that for example 1 sub-category with the exact same list of products appears in 2 differents categories (but with a unique URL). So as you say in the second part of your first paragraph I should merge them or 301 redirect one of the categories to the other. If I understood your answer right, would it be better to choose 1 category (let's call it category1) as a "father" for this sub-category ? And maybe create a 301 redirection link for this sub-category that would be present in the second category (category2) ? Thank you, Max

  • I'm glad I helped. As these are sites you closely work with, you can notify them regarding the issue and their webmaster can look over the issue, as excessively generated links do hurt their site even more than yours. As for the links being do-follow that would be beneficial to your website is they weren't so excessive, so no need to mention that. On the pages that you can't find the link, try opening "inspect element" or right-click on the page and click "view page source" and then find (ctrl+f) your site name. If your URL shows up, then it means that the link is in a hidden section of the site. If it doesn't show up it means that the link has been removed but Moz hasn't crawled the site yet to update it. If the links seem too spammy for you and the webmaster doesn't fix them, then you can disavow the domains until a later time when the issues are resolved. • In terms of the on-site architecture I think that could be improved to rank better, e.g: convert: https://www.nystatemls.com/profiles/NY/SAINT_ALBANS/NEW_YORK_ESTATES_GROUP_INC/Dale_Davids/68966/listings/ to: https://www.nystatemls.com/new-york/saint-albans/new-york-estates-group-inc/dale-davids/ But keep in mind that if you did this, you'd have to do a massive internal 301 redirects project using rapid redirect technology like NginX instead of basic web.config / .htaccess mods (and NginX redirects aren't even available on all server types) to cover the change in architecture. I think it could be a good move but with that volume of URLs you'd need a forensic approach Yes I do think basic SEO training for your members would be good, allowing them to access the H1, <title>, URL slug and Meta Description fields could be very useful. Also allowing them to set bespoke FB OG / Twitter Card share images (1200x630 for dimensions) as well as OG titles and descriptions, could significantly boost your traffic intake across SEO and social - but only if these fields were used correctly. Maybe you'd want to isolate some of the best profiles and take over the Meta updates yourself, to ensure they are 'proper'</p> <p>Incentivisation could be an issue. Yes these guys already promote their own listings, but getting them to do basic keyword research and Meta updates could be a big ask. A review system would be good. Say someone updates this data, then you review it and give it the 'good' stamp of approval - maybe they could get slightly enhanced listings for a duration in some way. Make it worth their while and you will really benefit!</p> <p> </p></title>

  • From an SEO stand point? -- Google might consider the links in this article to be paid links.  If they are marked as nofollow or as sponsored then they should not have a bad SEO impact.  But if they are not marked nofollow of sponsored then they might be a problem. -- You got an article because you want to increase brand visibility.  So, what is the DailyMail doing to deliver traffic into your article?  Are they shouting it on on their home page and on every relevant page across the site?  An article on an orphan page is worth nothing.  An article on a heavily promoted page is worth a lot more. -- How long is the article going to be there, and how long will strong promotion of it persist? -- It's a thin content article.   It would be best to give them a very high quality article if lots of people are going to see it.   That will produce a positive impression for your brand.  The high quality article will also rank better in the SERPs, if the Daily Mail is allowing it to be indexed.   If it is going to be used on the DM for a limited amount of time, it could then be used on another website or your own., -- How would I spend my next block of money and time?   I would make a kickass 10x article and post it on my own website.

  • No stress whatsoever. What you have done is identified  an issue, to be monitored.   If no sudden change in rankings or even a slow decline you are in a strong position. So no need for concern. We are getting a lot of wins, by improving schema markup for our clients, perhaps do a schema review. Keep ahead of the pack. Go get em, Regards

  • I don’t think it will do much. Unless you’re current  domain is really no doing well. It would need constant content to rank well.

  • We run "in house" websites.   That gives us knowledge of many other businesses in the industry.   For businesses that we don't know, we can easily check professional credentials of individuals and companies. Google is able to check professional credentials of individuals that include:  government issued licenses, professional registrations and memberships, college degrees, wikipedia articles, awarded patents, registered copyright. and publication history in professional journals and on industry websites. For companies, Google can aggregate the professional credentials of its staff, company certifications such is ISO (and similar), stock exchange listings, wikipedia articles, awarded patents, registered copyright. DA is a very primitive tool in comparison.

  • Due to many redirects (even 301s) being subject to some kind of content similarity checks (last cache of old active URL before 301, cache of new page) I don't think there's much mileage in this any more. I am pretty sure that some kind of Boolean content string similarity check is performed and if the content is very dissimilar, the 301s don't really work that well. I have no official Google quotes on this but have observed it from a number of 301 redirect migration projects and I'm pretty confident that dissimilar URLs receive only a fraction of SEO authority from 301s now

  • There are tools, maybe without notification, maybe with. But they are often times not 100% accurate. To be accurate you should check GSC external Links. Tools show you thinks often times late or links google don't knows (maybe). Think ahrefs, semrush or even moz linkexplorer is checking links including new and gone links. You can include GSC Links in semrush - so the basis are accurate.  Bet thats the same for some other tools, but I only know it for sure in semrush. You can get a report from semrush so it maybe fits your needs.

  • Hi udaipabla, You should always point your links to the final version you show users. In this case, you have all 3 redirected to https://www.remotebaba.com, then that should be the URL. The thinking here is to be coherent on what you tell Users, other webs and Google. Don't waste Google's time making it go through redirections whenever you can avoid it. Hope it helps. Best luck. • We have this same issue.  Surely the top pages should be (in our case) product pages or category pages, not all images?

  • Yes absolutely. I'm sorry if my answer wasn't clear on that point but yes it's almost always better for rankings to have more internal links pointing to pages and if it's better for users too, then it's the best move all around.
