  • Yup, I would do it exactly like kieran says. Make sure to have some anchor text variation though, so that the "scheme" looks more natural and not like it's bought or something.

  • Yes, it matters. Your site is properly set up to 301 redirect the www URL to the non-www equivalent. Each time that happens, there is a minor loss of link juice. When possible, you want those linking to your site to use your main url, http://centralplumbingnm.com/

  • When I comment on blogs I try to contribute to the conversation and look at it as an opportunity to make contact with potential customers as well as expanding our link profile. I would feel really uncomfortable entering anything other than a name - depending on circumstances either the brand name or a personal id - in the name field as I think this would be repellent to the people I want to connect with. In terms of link acquisition, blog comments are a low effort, low value option. I don't see why people would expect using exact match anchor text to give a huge boost to the value of the link - of course the search engines are aware that user generated content is a magnet for spammers and I'm sure they have ways of discounting those links. I think the best approach to blog commenting is contribute to a community and form real relationships. That way you have the immediate benefits of engaging with your market, with the added bonus that people who trust you and value your contribution are more likely to link to you. I've spent too much time deleting comment spam on our blogs to think much of anyone using that tactic - it's a good way to guarantee I won't check your site out!

  • Agreed with Vistage. If it's a balance of time (and regardless) I'd definitely try to focus on the stronger blogs your guest posting on. But yes, great to have more links from some strong blogs, and just more exposure to their visitors.

  • Thanks convergent...but my interest is the service he uses to add those posts to all those blogs...and those blogs are all WAHM sites and really do not have a direct link to sleeping pills... I am trying to find out the service he is using.

  • If there isn't a lot of competitiveness, there may be no need to build links? A comprehensive guide/article might already do the trick? Have you tried adding the articles to the site already? Targetting the keywords on the articles' pages in stead of the home page? You might already rank? So you analyzed the 5 competitors and they don't have any resource sections on their site? Why not try the rest of the web with the query: "the keyword you are building links for" allintitle:resources or allintitle:list or allintitle:blog or something similar?

  • Yes, it is a good idea, You dont want to have 100% "do follow" comments, it is simply unnatural for big G. just dont put to much effort into it.

  • All of a sudden this company is no longer ranking for their main keywords... Could multiple logs used for keywords and content harm a ranking or be considered cheating to google? or did they do something else to get punished?

  • Do I have anything to gain by allowing these comments to stay on the page? Probably not.... and if those links are going to bad neighborhoods you can expect your blog to tank.

  • I too am looking for someone to do link building. I have heard mention on these boards of Paul and Angela's back links and then did a Google search for a term that P&A ranked very high and came across a company called SEOlace. I went to their "SEOlace" site and checked out some testimonials and then the particular clients PA and DA numbers to see if they were decent. The sites that used SEOlace appeared to have good DA, at least so far as their testimonial sites. Any members that could provide feedback or sources would be appreciated. I am sure many members especially the newer of us could use some guidance. I have learned a lot from SEOmoz and know I need to be blogging and doing social to really build up some links. I think a lot of us who recently started never got the chance to build up links pre Panda and are perhaps at a slight disadvantage if we can't accelerate our links in some fashion in addition to blogging and social as our competitors have thousands or tens of thousands of links ahead o f us.

  • Hi Diane, I'd check out some of the responses you got to a similar question about paid tools that may help you, in case you weren't subscribed to the answers when they came through. http://www.seomoz.org/q/has-anyone-used-paid-services-to-help-improve-their-site

  • It can take up to two months for your links to show in OSE, and OSE only indexes the top 25% or so of the web. If you're still not seeing the links by the end of December, post another thread and we can take a closer look at it.

  • I'm going to write my response for a generic local eatery/coffee shop/donut shop, and hope some of it works for you. I'm a contractor for SEOmoz, and work from my home. I regularly search Yelp for nearby places that have wifi where I can escape the heat in the summer, or work by a fireplace in the winter, and enjoy some food and a change of scenery. I care less about the pretty pictures, and more about making sure the home page comes up quickly on my mobile phone, that you have hours and directions easily listed, and that there's a menu with prices. I'm overjoyed if I do have some information about the establishment -- is this a place that has wifi? Can I come hang out for a couple of hours and work? Is there a special on a certain day where I might decide to make Thursdays my day where I treat myself to a late lunch at your business? If I find a good place, I will get on Yelp and leave a review and let others know as well. If you're more of a manufacturer of the product and not a direct retailer, do you offer a gluten free product? Anything vegan? If I'm shopping for a donut that a relative with a specific food allergy can eat, will I find that information on your website? If you did make a gluten free donut, you could reach out to blogs about gluten free diets and have those bloggers review your donuts and link to you.

  • Hi Zack, I think most things have been covered, but I would just add: Start at the beginning. Your title needs to be capable of earning the clickthrough all by itself. The current title is ambiguous - is Austin a city in Texas or a guy with a name that starts with "A". Consider the difference in impact of a slight wording change. For example "Why is Austin such an angry city?". Hope that helps, Sha.

  • If I could offer two pieces of advice to someone learning SEO they would be: #1 - Learn from the most authentic sources. Read sites like Google Webmaster Central, watch videos from Matt Cutts (Youtube.com search Matt Cutts) and read or ask questions on SEOmoz. There are a few other great sites out there but for every good site there seems to be many bad ones. If you aren't sure, just ask! #2 - Proper SEO should feel good and, for the most part, make sense. You are looking to build authentic, long term value for your business. If you wind up performing actions which feel fake, stop and question those actions. Ask here in the Q&A. Steps such as submitting to free link directories, looking for chinese blogs who don't nofollow links and similar forms of obtaining links aren't likely to add an value at all to your site, and may actually harm your site.
