Getting my crunchbase page to rank in au search engines
Hi Adam, As Pete says, I think you're likely to face an uphill climb with this one. Building links to the page may help, but you're fighting against a US-centric domain, and a powerful one at that. Just out of interest, what are you trying to get this page to rank for? Hannah

Why Post Useless Blog Comments
I'm pretty sure Akismet does blacklist people based on IP. I've heard several people complain that they got accidentally blacklisted and couldn't comment on any Akismet blogs. See here for a little info: http://www.growmap.com/akismet-test/

Russian or English, be or not to be??
Hi Russel, I would wrap it in english text - the link will be of the greatest value in meaningful context. The parsers may not even recognize it as an english term and pass weight to the page for the english keyword. -Paul

Promoting a Technical Site
I have had success meeting with the clent and asking how they think potential clients will find them in search.... we brainstormed some keywords and I showed them the adwords keyword tool which they greatly enjoyed and played with for nearly an hour. After that I told them that if they wanted traffic for any of those keywords that I would need a page of substantive content for each one. I told them that substantive content would be needed to inform Google that they are seriously in that line of business. That got the attention of the owner and he assigned shares of the content development to members of his staff. Playing with the keyword tool opened their eyes to how search engines recognize what a website is about. I received lots of content as Word documents in about two weeks.

Website design by... links. Worth it?
Hi James, I agree with Ruslan. While a footer link value is low, it is still an authentic link and an opportunity to associate anchor text with the target page. Such links can help diversify your link profile and offer association with various locations.

Auto Blog Content
That's just it. These kinds of sites are the reason the Panda update was created.

How can I reduce nofollow links to get better rankin?
Build relationship's with other relevant websites in your niche. Also, create content that is trustworthy and worth linking to, and the links will roll in, in time.

Additional links + Sinking DA
Thanks Rand, I needed that. I've just been informed by my son's school that the council want to withdraw his funding - the UK is pretty dire at the moment. He has SEN. Still puts things in prospective.

Best link research tool
I think Raven has something like that. I remember seeing this post from Sugarrae a while back, and you can see other reviews as well if you search. http://www.sugarrae.com/link-development/organizing-link-development-raven-tools-review/

Does Google see this as an inbound link?
I can't imagine Google wouldn't take notice of a link like you're describing, if they'd come from an authoratative site. An example: http://jguide.stanford.edu/directory/url.lasso?id=1809&lang=en&url=http%3A//www.fashioninjapan.com/ The server header is a temporary 302 redirect though in this case, which isn't as valuable as a 301.

What is the delay of link insertion in Open Site Explorer?
We're certainly working on crawling more and more deeply I'd say we'll have between 35-75% of the links that Google knows about (depending on where you're getting your links from - if it's low quality stuff, especially deep pages on spammyish pages, it's less likely). In terms of delay in picking up new links - if you got a link today, it would likely be in the Jan. 4th index (because we're actively crawling for that index and haven't started processing). However, it's also possible that we've already crawled that part of the web in the last week or two and it wouldn't be until the next index (late January/early February). Thus, anywhere from 20 (at the very fastest) to 60 days (at the very worst) is the speed of OSE's pickup of links.

Should I use the Root domain as a landing page for 2 languages?
Thanks a lot Simon for answering, my site wont have any geo target , just english and spanish speakers, one of my concerns for example is about submitting to directories, if I dont have a landing homepage for language selection, so should I submit the spanish version with this url www.mysyte.com/es to directories in spanish and my english version with this one www.mysyte.com/en to directories in english , but this way my root domain wont gain strenght from the directories links. Thanks in advance, David

Anchor text... How hard should one try?
OK. So My takeaway from this is that it's probably best (since it's so much easier) to go mostly for brand-related anchor text, other perhaps than in cases where I'm really trying to make a push on a particular page? If that's correct, then my last question is: Are brand anchor text links to a particular page thought to be weighted considerably less by Google than page title anchor text for that particular page?

Links from Domain Portfolio Advertising Sites
How clean do you want your new domain to be? What percentage of the total inbound link profile comes from that network? How relevant are the relationships between the pages those links are on and the pages on your domain they point to? If the answer to any of those falls within the realm of "polluted" or "over-saturated", I'd ask to get those links removed. While Google does a fair job of devaluing bad links, and they're getting better all the time, if it's a majority of your profile, it's still a red flag that the site is, at the very least, on shaky ground, or built on a house of cards.

Good/Bad Backlinks - Penalties
Well the thing is that it is not ethical to do this type of thing. If Google finds out you are trying to sabotage your competitors it can end up making your company/brand look very very bad. you would never try this for a big respected brand. That been said people do this kind of thing every day in niches like poker, I also saw a recent example in my market where a clients website was hit with 1000s of adult links from competitors over night.

Looking at Page Authority of a link to our website... what Page Authority number should we use in deciding the link is junk?
Hi Bill, I wouldn't set a hard and fast rule to look solely at PageAuthority because it doesn't provide the big picture. Instead, I would use it in conjunction with DomainAuthority so you can understand the authority/trust behind the referring domain and get some context for the link. That way you aren't ruling out "good" links because they have a low PA. For example, I would rather have a PA=13,DA=100 link from Stanford.edu than a PA=56,DA=5 link from some random article directory. Does that make sense?
