  • There are good and bad things about it. It is very well-researched and pretty complete. Whoever made it put clearly put countless hours of work into it. On the downside, it needs some serious maintenance. SOOOOOO many of the links are outdated or completely dead. Others seem irrelevant. I.E. The Huffington post is one of the things listed--how are you supposed to get a link from them? Also, a lot of the sites are listed as giving followed links when they're really nofollow, and pagerank is pretty much wrong for the majority of them. My advice would be if you could buy it with your clients money, go for it. If you have to use your own . . . meh.

  • found it. it deals with the sitemap. It's auto generated. I also think it deals with search result and a high CTR. http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47334

  • Does that mean that they're likely going to be using the beta version with noindex, nofollow at a later point, or is that just a temporary thing. We're doing very well in organic listings right now, but we have Thomasnet for a client as well.  Trying to decide whether or not to keep them.  We're also getting over 10 times the traffic from PPC at only twice the cost.  Is there a major benefit from Thomasnet that I should be considering?

  • Is your content something that the Reddit audience would be interested in? If so, put effort into being a part of the community and help push some of your better pieces of content. If you are only spending time on Reddit to attempt to get some link juice, I think you could put your time to better use to participating on other sites closer to your niche. Use Reddit for the traffic and potential new customers/subscribers, not the link juice.

  • Email is really the only way to deliver to them.  RSS will work, but they need to know how to receive RSS feeds in their email program.  I would investigate Social, Twitter, Facebook.

  • I think you are looking at this the wrong way. A subdomain should warrant enough unique content that is related to the main topic of your site. Links to both a subdomain and folder will increase value of the TLD. In regards to "link juice" - building on the TLD will always help. You should be looking at this from an ease of use perspective of your readers. Point is, I have yet to see any difference from a subdomain vs a subfolder. I've never seen a subdomain have a higher PR than the TLD, and same goes to the subfolder idea as well.

  • My Initial Reaction with all the new reports and studies coming out on the Importance Social going forward - Would be to say the Social Benefits, heavily outweigh the loss of PR to external sites.. But then again, also in PR as I understand it, the difference between .0001 and .001 in PR CAN be huge in the determination of placement.. So I think it is a give and take.... But both positions cannot be ignored **NOW  **BUT I most definitely agree that Vinnie's take on it is a more longterm approach, than hoarding page rank...

  • Depends on where you are at in the SEO timeline.  I just started and made one comment on a site and now I get more traffic from that site than several of my paid boards combined. If the comment is on a high traffic board and is very relevant that it could pay big dividends for a new website like mine.  On the other hand there may be other great ways to continue developing SEO for the long term.  For the short term though..this one comment has been gold for my newbie site. • So, I should blog to drive targeted audience to my site(s) via blogging.  Then point most of the links back to the index. Once in awhile mix it up and sprinkle a few on my important pages. I am a realtor, so I have subjects like cities, subdivisions, foreclosures, listings, regular sellers, etc, etc, so it is fine to talk about all of these unique topics and point them to the for example www.azbestlistings.com and google will do what google does to get my other pages to the top? Excuse the site, as I have it being complete redone to look more user friendly to the eyes.

  • Thanks to everyone for replying to this query Having watched Rand's video & I think I'm getting the general impression with link building that if its ethical & natural congruent with ones topic it will tend to stand the test of time In my case for me I think I will only reciprocal link with site requests that are more closely related to my niche topic 'waterproof mp3 players'  & not just generalist swim related sites thanks again for everybody's  input

  • Hi Matthew, My advice on the matter has changed a lot over the past year. These days, it's still okay to build directory links, but I suggest doing it only with directories related to your niche. General directories, in my mind, are best to stay away from altogether. For example, if you run a nursing home site, you could probably find a dozen high quality directories of nursing homes and assisted living facilities. These would be great! The general rule of thumb is if you build directory links, make sure you build "normal" high quality links along with them at an equal pace. Try to build one naturally given editorial link for each directory link you build. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO!
