Are there benifits to aquiring domain names with keywords of a niche site and redirecting them to the niche site?
I do not think i explained my self very well there so i can understand your reply totally, in truth and without explaining in depth the process, the idea is simple good quality content linking to a domain with keywords in the URL pointed to a site which is also relevant.

BackLinks Less than other software
Hi Gianluca, None of the online tools will show you all of the links. However you can create an excel sheet and use a bunch of services to collect all the backlinks they can find. Once you've collected all the backlinks from your Google webmaster tools, Open site explorer, Majestic, and whatever other software you want to use, add all these links to an excel sheet and remove the duplicates. Hope this helps.

Good guest blogging communities?
Hi Annie, Reports from my guys who deal with such things are that life is harder on myblogguest now. With all the low quality link peddlars looking around for alternative strategies, guest blogging is high on their list. This means that lots of them have moved to the likes of MBG - making publishers more wary.

How can see the total # of links to my site?
Whilst doing some Penguin link cleanup work at BowlerHat.co.uk we have been pulling links from aHrefs, Majestic, OSE and webmaster tools and finding differences and new links in each index. Somewhat annoying, but to really get the full picture you have to use all of the tools to get the closest possible snapshot.

Links are still showing in Opensite explorer?
Thanks. And just to clear things up, I'm not a SEO. I did some free work for some friends of mine, we are not friends anymore, & so I removed the links from my websites to theirs.

Brand new website, should I nofollow almost all internal links?
Hi there, As a general rule, you almost always want to "follow" internal links - this includes links between internal pages. To do otherwise could hurt your SEO. Links do a lot of things. They create a path for search robots to crawl your site. They send off relevancy and popularity signals to ranking algorithms. Is there any particular reason you thought of "nofollowing" your internal links? About the only time you want to add nofollow to internal links is when doing so prevents search robots from going down the wrong path, such as so-called spider traps, or sometimes as a layer of protection to keep robots from crawling certain pages (not the best method to use) Regardless, making sure your internal links are followed has many, many benefits. This is one of my favorite blog posts of all time - although a little dated, it applies to internal links as well as external: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/10-illustrations-on-search-engines-valuation-of-links Hope this helps. Best of luck with your SEO!

A backlinks question
Hey, a couple of links to the top 100 products would likely make a big difference, just try to keep it natural. You may do better with a highly scalable content + outreach campaign to bring in hundreds of links as manual link building for this many pages is just not practical. Or, alternatively, some kind of competition or some such to try and stimulate natural linking to the product pages - obviously, idea needs fleshing out and not knowing your industry it's a total shot in the dark but... there is always a way. Best of luck! Marcus

Would it make sense to add a no-follow to About, Sign In, Join Us, Privacy, Terms of Use etc?
thank you. I appreciate this. I run a job board and I noticed the most successful job search engine - indeed.com - no follow page numbers. Example: if run a search for "Los Angeles" jobs you get thousands of hits and at the bottom of each page the page numbers you can jump between (1,2 3, next, etc) are all set as no-follow. They have also set Sign In as no follow. I see careerbuilder also has a few no-follows. This does not mean they are right, but it is interesting for me to observe, since these are the heavyweights in my industry. I run this site by the way www.hawaiijobengine.com

Paid Directory - Whitehat or Blackhat?
Hi David, Directories are a difficult one. The recent Penguin updates (and to some degree, Panda) have pretty much destroyed the generic directories. However, the benefits of local directories and citations are still there! (http://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/10322/The-Ultimate-List-50-Local-Business-Directories.aspx) With regards to the particular directory that you're querying. The quality is low, even for directory standards. You're probably doing more harm than good by mass submitting to 50 directories that are linking out to all sorts of drop-shipping / foreign / low quality sites. Matt Cutts also made a video explaining how Google treats Paid Directories. There are a few good directories that request a review fee that may be worth it - BOTW, Business.com, Yahoo, but the rest are just paid links. What your agency are doing isn't the darkest of black-hat SEO, but it's definitely low quality, lazy and against Google guidelines. 50 directories probably won't harm your site. However if the majority of your backlink profile is made up of directories, it definitely won't be doing your site any favours. tl;dr Local Directories - Good Genuine Review Fee Based Directories - Possible Benefits Mass Submissions / Paid Directories - Bad If you'd like to read more, I wrote a post about my thoughts on directories back in September that I feel still rings true! watch?v=rKUlVquEImc

Link from a non existing page- is it bad?
That's a good idea Iain. Thanks! Though link is pointing to homepage so can't redirect.

Business.com - Who's stil submitting to it, and why?
Appreciate the input, interesting that their ppc offering outperforms Adwords in that instance/niche. I guess that is a pretty good fit for that particular site, something to keep in mind, for sure.

Is www.indexkings.com safe to use?
IndexKings is a "safe" site to use. What it does is ping your URL to sites like Alexa, WSRising.com amongst others, which then pings Google. It does generate a number of no-value backlinks and there's no documented harm (as far as i'm aware) by using these services sporadically. What you should be aware of is users that submit 2nd or 3rd tier backlinks in an attempt to get them indexed via these services. If you've got a legitimate website that you want indexed, the best way to do that would be via www.google.com/addurl.html Save yourself the hassle and risk

Outrank?
Hi Andreas, A very open ended question. It depends on a lot of factors, the competition, the industry, geo target. The fundamentals involve 3 aspects: Strong On Page SEO (www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/on-page-factors) Strong Off Page primarily link building (http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links) Social Media (www.seomoz.org/blog/the-social-media-marketers-seo-checklist As long as you have these 3 aspects covered, you are off to a very good start. Keep monitoring your progress regularly. Setup baseline metrics for rankings, traffic and conversions and keep marking progress each day, week, month, quarter, year. All the best.

Advice On Promoting A Hosting Site
Well, UK2.net does have a LOT of links, so there is that.... Also, if the competition is doing well without much content I would think that having as much relevant content as possible (which would presumably be more than the competition) would give your friend a leg up, right? I mean the competition is doing well without it because it appears no one in that particular industry really uses much content and if no one is using it than its worth is moot. I would tell your friend to use as much RELEVANT content as possible - I would certainly tell him to utilize schema.org formatting everywhere possible and start a good, on-going link building campaign.

Geographical Relevance of Back links - Important for SEO?
Local links are a lot better then international. Lower quality local links can bring you higher position then other ones. We experienced that with our 10 websites.

Is business related directory paid links OK for SEO?
First of all by getting your website listed in some Paid directories, you are just making your website more vulnerable to Penguin as the process violates Google’s guidelines. However, what I believe is that if you are getting your website in some chosen directories like Yahoo Directories etc, you may not be in trouble as Google is well aware of their existence. So, rather than wasting your SEO dollars on things so uncertain, I would suggest you to do something more fruitful like investing in content marketing, designing create inforgraphic and then using it as a link bait. However, if you wish to do it as a promotional purpose, you can go ahead; just make sure that you are adding no follow attribute against them. _Hope that helps. _
