Help an SEO-DUMMY : ) Established hyphenated domain...redirect?!...new domain?!
Hi Karina, It is unlikely that you are being penalised for having a hyphenated domain, but Google do say that hyphens, especially on a dot com, are something of a spam signal, so tend to be flagged, but that doesn't automatically mean it is going to happen, or has happened. Moving forwards has a lot to do with your business objectives; do you want to build your company brand? What is the scope for moving forwards with the current domains in relation to this? Unless you want to re-brand, I would suggest looking at the site first to see if there are any glaring errors, but I suspect it will be a lack of link / content / social activity that is starting to hold you back now. There is also part of the Google algorithm that looks at exact match domains, but this shouldn't be a worry as long as the content matches the intent of the domain. Have you done much in terms of link building to the site, and do you have authorship set up? There may even be opportunities to include some Schema / Micro Data to help enhance the site, but that depends more on the site and content. Happy to answer any further questions. Andy

Can someone help with Canonical?
Thanks for the heads up. Didn't realize that would make much of a difference but I corrected the problem. Also, without me doing anything, the Canonical Error is fixed...

Address on Every page of the website for Local SEO? Good or Bad?
Hi Varun, You can put your complete NAP (name, address, phone) on every page, but most typically, local business websites put this in two major places: the sitewide website footer and the Contact Us page. It can also be a good idea to have it in the site masthead to help visitors instantly know that your business is local to them. I would only put it on the rest of the pages of the website if it made sense to do so. It certainly won't hurt you if you want to put it on every page, but I don't think it will be of more help than simply having it in the places I've specified, above.

Google webmaster markup validation error
Yes there is no error at all. Moreover, try to use the schema.org's markup instead of using Markup Validator in Google.

How to re-follow using the WPSEO plugin
Hi Mike That is odd for sure. I could see this being tricky to diagnose over a Q&A so I'll suggest some more things and ultimately you might want to try to see if someone can help. These are just guesses / possibilities; Do you have any caching plugins etc? Try disabling those Try disabling / enabling Yoast. Your settings should remain. Try one by one disabling other plugins and seeing if it changes. Are you using a theme that could conflicting? Check your theme settings. You may want to try Yoast support directly - he typically will claim it's not his plugin causing an issue (and 99% of the time it isn't) - so might be tough to get help, but that would be the ultimate source I think of a solution. Beyond getting hands on with it, that's what I could offer as some other guesses. It does sound like something possibly simple. I would keep exploring all options! If you do find the cause feel free to write back and let us know.

Choosing a title tag in seo (H1 or H2 or H3)
Ben Morei stated the difference between HTML4 and HTML5 in using heading tags already. His answer is therefor completely correct. What i would like to add to his answer is that you should look at H1, H2, H3, H4, H5 and H6 tags as if the webpage is a book. In a book the chapter-title is a H1 tag. All the subchapters have an H2 tag. If these subchapters have another sub-area then this would be marked up with an H3 tag and so on. Having a clear hierarchy in your heading tags will make it more user friendly. Search engines might also understand better which parts of the content are connected to each other and which are separate because of this. Hope i answered your question and if anything is still unclear feel free to ask more details. We have three answers to your question here now and the question is still on marked as 'unanswered'. If your question is answered could you please mark the answer which was most helpful as the correct answer so this question is no longer on the bounty page for no reason?

Url structure with dash or slash
Hey Rob, Just throwing some ideas in here. Is it folder depth or distance in terms of number of clicks from Homepage that makes a difference? It was my understanding that using a very flat structure was pretty outdated SEO? One of the issues I think that get overlooked a lot when considering URL structure is how to structure URLs so you can drill down easily into different types of content/categories/channels. As I understand it Google see a slash as the root of a folder. You can see this in Analytics, a page with a slash at the end of it has a folder icon next to it and you are shown the stats for that folder. This means that if you remove the trailing slashes from actual pages you can see how separate areas of the site are performing as a whole. Another argument for using a folders to structuring URLs could be that "link juice" spreads throughout the folder, perhaps even contextually. For instance if I have a folder which contains all of my pages about widgets then as my link profile to the pages in the widgets folder all the pages in that folder benefit. It seems logical that if an item was in a relevant directory that x contextual links then it would benefit. As I said, just a bit food for thought, not sure if my theories are correct but I'd be interested what you guys think? Neil.

Duplicate Page Content
The contact-us page re-directs to a different URL (about-us/contact-us) but the original source code for just www.handyrealtysa.com/contact-us matches http://www.handyrealtysa.com/community & http://www.handyrealtysa.com/resources which has no content in the main area. While a high percentage can be considered duplicates, our crawler will also take into account the main content area to see if anything matches there as well which in the above links are different outside of the navigation and header.

Why SOFT404 ?
If a particular brand has no products currently, instead of showing a, 'product not found' message, you can have a description of the brand or something like, 'please checkout this space for products from xxx brand soon' etc. And also give an option for the visitor or some closely related product or category link on the same page. In this case, the HTTP header status can be a 200. If you do not want the search engines or the visitors be confused with a brand shop that has no products and shows a, 'product not found' message, the HTTP header status code should be 404 and not 200 and at the same time should help the visitor by suggesting a close match so that he can further navigate the website. Good luck friend. Best, Devanur Rafi

What Is the Best company for Seo that Scan and all errors automatically For me. thanks
The services mainly help you identify what needs to be addressed, then an actual human comes in and needs to interpret the results and make the changes. There's no magic software out there where you can click, have everything fixed, and get on the first page of Google.

Critical Page Problems.
I agree that the critical indicates the importance of the factor and that the green check mark indicates the line item's completion.

In need of guidance on keyword targeting
I agree with Jared's comments - the current keyword layout of the pages is an effective one. There's probably tweaks that can be made but overall I don't see major issues with having concrete repair as a subpage. This homepage is ranking on page 1 for "concrete repair west yorkshire". That may or may not be the ideal keyword, but I would focus on link building - run your way through this entire list of opportunities and see how that affects performance.

Changing site title
No problem, but one thing you also need to know is that keyword density is a myth. It's true that longer articles tend to be shared more often, but there's isn't any set word limit either. If you write about the topic in a way that sounds natural to you, you'll probably be alright. After you get your blog/site fleshed out, it's time to start thinking about letting people you know you're there. Of course, it is advised to do so in a non-desperate/non-annoying way. (Don't worry, you're not annoying. Just don't say; "OMG OMG PULLEEEZE LINK TO MEH LOL!!!!1) Participate in discussions with people. I mean, there's a ton of ways you can go with this. There's mommy bloggers, crafty people/sites - rustic stuff, home decor. Someone out there has at least a moderate interest in your theme and what it entails. Engage people and offer value, don't always sell. If you haven't yet, there's a metric ton of good information here.

Tool To Search For Duplicate Content
Although the Moz software is awesome, it only works to configure and setup campaigns if you are a PRO member which comes with a 99$ fee per month. This isn't for everyone unless they can use the software more than once.. I would suggest grabbing a few free tools online to use. You can check out : ScreamingFrog and/or Xenu Link Sleuth Each will provide you with detailed reports to filter through and see content from your site. ScreamingFrog will provide you with data for up to 500 URL's for free. You will need to purchase the license to go deeper, depending on your site. This one is a great for getting HTTP header checks and site wide duplicate content error notifications. If you want to try a tool to verify online duplicate content - PageSpotter is a checking and monitoring tool. A great post by Google Webmaster Center Blog about Duplicate Content and why you need to address it to help with your site. If you plan to go the route of moving the site to a new domain/URL this is a great forum piece on the steps you need to plan and execute for a clean move. Hope some of this helps you out!

How Do I Get Rel=Author to Work Via Wordpress SEO by Yoast?
Hi Chad, I'm glad your question was answered! Would you kindly mark the most helpful responses you received in this thread as "good answers"? To answer your last question, bylines contain the name of the author of a story, and sometimes the date published and category. For example, in this post on The Moz Blog, Are You Setting up Wordpress for SEO Success, the byline is "May 7th, 2012 - Posted by Dan Shure to On-Page / Site Optimization". Bylines are most appropriate for blog posts, news article, editorials, and feature stories. Bylines should not go on press releases, product/service pages, nor sales pages. I peeked at your site, and didn't see any content piece that looked like it should have a byline. If you add a blog to your site with Wordpress, bylines will be enabled by default. Hope this helps, and best of luck! Christy

Sudden drop in ranking for important keyword? No penalty / other issues detected
Thanks Doug, that's really helpful. Good to see that phrase has bounced back up as well. We've been looking at our backlinks as we are aware there are a lot of bad, irrelevant directory sites that we are clearing up. Historically the old sites were in a pattern of steadily declining organic traffic, from the end of 2012. This has transferred to the new site (keywords slipping a few places, less long tail traffic). We think this may be due to a poor backlink profile. We will also look into doing some outreach to the linking domains on the old site and see if we can get these moved over to the new site rather than just relying on the redirects. Thanks again!

Catergories not appaearing in google help!
There isn't a way for a user to force Google to give the larger sitelinks like that, unfortunately. It's something they do at their choosing.
