  • You should keep it brief as possible. Too long url's wont add anything. The URL can be a signal on what your topic or page is about. But i shoud'nt stress that too much. If you take wordpress for example when writing a new page, blogpost or so, it usually takes the page title and cuts it up with /something-as-a-title/ I am experimenting with shorter url's too in comparison to the page title. I dont see any gain nor disadvantages on it.

  • You can go with what Nathan said. However, a better long term solution  would be to use a theme that allows you to control what is displayed on mobile vs what is displayed on desktop (or any other screen sizes). A good theme that allows you to do this should not be creating duplicate content.

  • As Kate said above competition is different for all keywords. I find ranking for geographically specific keywords fairly easy but when I broarden that only slightly I find it very hard to compete as many more companies are targeting the same thing. The hardest thing in SEO is to identify what your customer puts into the search bar, often this is different to what we would as we are blinded by our own knowledge. Ask a child to find your site using search only and you'll soon see. I hope that helps

  • This is because of the Moz bug. Everyone has faced this problem with the Moz bar. My website also not showing it's an authority at that time.

  • Hi MB It's perfectly OK to rank articles and categories as long as you can justify them. For example, the primary keywords would be: Category:  'Stock Market Training'' Article: What is The Stockmarket? All well and good so far. You would make the primary keywords distinct and different for each and that would work well. Once you introduce tags like Learn Stock Market - everything falls apart. They cut across and cannibalize the category and articles and so have no worth. It will ruin your efforts for the other two. Write some compelling SEO text for the category page, up to 1000 words may do but check the competition and have just a short summary of each article on there with links to the articles. No index the tags.  Trust me it's the correct way to go. Nigel

  • Gael, The rule is pretty simple here- there's really no such thing as a "duplicate content penalty" that will hurt your entire site. The question is--do you want those pages with content similar to the original to rank equally to the original page? If so, each page will have to be very unique and build its own expertise, authority and trust (quality content, inbound links, local seo). While there may not be a penalty for content duplicated on your site, google does have a threshold as to what it calls original content and just changing a few words on the page will not meet those requirements. You really should start from scratch and rethink the copy on each page if you're thinking you want these pages to rank well in the future.

  • Two things to think about with SSL. Google looks at is a trust signal.  It shows you are actively trying to protect the users that come to the site.  Google had an article on this in 2014.  https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2014/08/https-as-ranking-signal.html How users perceive the site.  I personally take less advice from sites with no SSL.  Mostly because, to me, it's a sign they aren't up to date.  But also, it can deter certain people from making purchases and subscribing to your list without it. There is "technically" a slowing down of the site with SSL, but with proper installation and configuration it's not much. There is encrypting/decrypting overhead when the site uses SSL.  The word "slower" doesn't mean snails pace.  It is usually a few milliseconds difference if configured correctly. Simply adding an SSL cert isn't enough. It is technically a site change and you'll need to do some things to inform Google that the site has change.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND doing the upgrade to HTTPS during a time the site doesn't have much traffic.  It can take a few weeks to implement correctly in the SERPs. You can read more about it here. https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6033049?hl=en

  • I would have to see the website in order to tell you rather or not I think having the drop-down would be beneficial. Also whether your menu is made of Java or HTML in my opinion still matters. Sometimes having a drop-down menu can be beneficial if it's siloed correctly would you be opposed to posting the site? Like Martijn said it depends on a lot of on-site structure Hope I have been somehow helpful, Tom

  • It's a good idea to audit each page and improve upon the optimization if needed. I agree that editing the URL is not needed in most cases. First, make sure you follow a keyword map that shows which pages should rank for which phrases. So assign each keyword to the correct page. Then, decide which keywords from the map for a specific page should be in the title tag, heading tags, content, alt text, and from internal links to this page from other pages. For any keywords currently ranking well, you should test a few optimization tweeks to see if you can improve your ranking a little bit.

  • Thank you for your prompt response. Yes, my products are categorized under each collection and then individually as well. In total there's around 200 individual products and around  50 other pages including few blogs. I agree it's a time consuming process. I also wish I knew which ones could be regarded as the easiest to target. Is it better to start with the keywords our site is already ranking for?

  • TW, Don't keyword stuff the alt tags.  The alt tag should accurately describe the image for people who have images turned off on their browser. Each image should have a different description and have a good reason for being on the page.

  • Vikasnwu, Yes, those kinds of issues are typical for the super-simple website design tools.   Do you want multiple h1 tags? No, you don't.  Will it hurt you in this case, no, it  won't. In the future, when you move to a new platform, you can take care of issues like that, but for now, I wouldn't worry about it.
