  • If they are very technical, just write down the specs or steps that you are discussing at the side, kind of like a guide you can follow while seeing the video.

  • Still no luck, I have built links and added some new content. The current SERP position is 37, Page Rank has also risen. Seems like an uphill struggle.

  • Thanks James. site:shop.surfcity.co.nz  is showing  different cache to the one  http://shop.surfcity.co.nz/ These are are same.  I mean why two different cache. In your view, is having title and description have anything to do with it.

  • I totally agree here. Can you share with us what you decided to do, and any impact it had? I'm going through the older unanswered Q&A questions, and it's always interesting to find out how things ended up.

  • What your gut may be telling you is that you need to have the server redirect the old URLs to the new URLs. That old URL is giving me a page not found, instead of a 301 redirect to the new AboutUs page.

  • Hi! I'm following up on older, unanswered questions. Did you ever find something that did what you wanted to do for tracking the metrics?

  • Hi Sam, Most browsers add the trailing / anyway, so no need for that, adding .html is not necessary either, usually just for static html websites. So, there is no real benefit of adding unnecessary extentions to your permalinks. regards Mark

  • Most SEOs have the opinion that exact match domains are a bit too powerful in Google's current algorithm, and I think most of us would bet our money on this tactic falling out of favor in the future.  Although admittedly, it has stuck around for longer than I think most of us would have expected. Branded traffic, on the other hand, isn't going to be affected nearly as much by any sort of algorithm change in the future - and it converts insanely well.  This should be the primary goal of anybody with a business. Of course generic traffic is important, but in my opinion, it's not important enough to put building my brand in the backseat, or to affect the way I choose a domain for my company. Now if this was an affiliate website or some kind of blog that I was launching in order to gain traffic from advertising, my opinion might be different.  But because this is a company, and presumably one that you intend to be around for a long time to come, I think branding is the most important consideration. If I had a sweet generic domain name in addition to my company domain, I might consider making a small microsite expressly for linkbuilding purposes, although I have to emphasize here that the vast, vast, vast majority of your effort should go into working on your primary domain.

  • Well here it is nearly 6 months later and no improvement -- in fact, we have slipped even further in domain authority despite adding some links that have seemingly impressive domain authority like dmoz.org and Google places. Any other suggestions?

  • this is always not the best answer. I've seen cases where the click has too many pages and it takes a long time to get to a product. A lot of the products too are similar so I combined a lot of parts together and hes getting 67% higher ctr and 3x more sales and phone calls.

  • Thanks Andre, That's what i thought also, Google just ignoring the second link, so you think it's neither "leaking" link juice like with a no-follow?

  • Hi Sounds like your from South Africa When it comes to targeting pages for keywords, i would avoid "cannibalising" your pages. If "goedkope vliegtickets" has a high volume of searches, then have only one page for "goedkope vliegtickets". What i mean is with "goedkope vliegtickets" you dont want to confuse google on which page you want it to display on the serps. Stick to your optimized page "goedkope vliegtickets" and let google rank that page ONLY for that particular keyword. When someone finds that page, you need to be sure you can direct them to the page they are actually looking for "location/tickets, etc When you research more keywords, you might find "goedkoopste tickets durban" this is a seperate keyword, so you are not "canabalising" if you created another page. I hope i made sense and good luck! GREG

  • I would focus more on the structure/hierarchy of your pages. Your H1 tags (one and only one per page) should logically be placed above the fold to a user. This is just good page design. The H1 is an important tag to any search engine. Ironically, well designed web pages seem to have many correlating benefits to SEO. But as Himanshu indicates I don't know that Google actually calculates where the fold is. The first challenge is that they would have to parse the CSS stylesheets and actually calculate approximate position of the page elements relative to an assumed page fold. Another challenge is that for each site the demographics vary as to the fold of its typical users. For example when I look at pages on my iPhone or iPad it is drastically different than when I view them on my 30" screen attach to my laptop. I view certain web sites when I am mobile for entertainment and others at my desk as they are work related.

  • I would do in this order.... Make content rich service description pages for Town A, B, and C. When they start ranking as well as your current homepage I would then reoptimize the homepage for the Portland metro area.

  • Brian, I agree with everyone else. H1 should be used for the main heading of each page. H2 should be used for a subheading. H1's, H2''s, H3's, etc are used for the sizing and coloring of the content. As far as search engines go; it's helpful to let it know what the main subject of that page is. Hope this helps!
