Removing Tag Cloud to Decrease the number of On-Site Links?
Savio It's always a good call to remove unwanted links, links that user's don't use. Sometimes these pages are thin content pages, lead to within the site duplicate content issues as well. I would strongly recommend removing the links, but then just with this change, expecting a major change, I guess not, but then it depends upon all the other metrics of your website. It might also make sense to consider doing a no-index on them. Is this a wordpress blog ? If yes, you can use All-In-One SEO ro Yoast SEO Plugin to noindex on you tag pages. Then look at your website and see if you see any SERP movements and continue to audit the site and refine the structure, add new content, build links and repeat. It's a continuous process you know I am sure I hope this helps.

Spammy link for each keyword
I meant it still reads the link as "Newcastle" rather than "Scrap Car Newcastle" (i.e. it doesn't inherit information from the parent list-item - i.e. Scrap Car) but the point about the actual landing page being optimised for "scrap car Newcastle" being enough is a good one and seems to be the best approach.

Should I use rel=canonical in this case
Thanks Davinia and Peter, That's what I intend to do. I was considering adding rel=canonical, but then, as I wrote the question here, it occurred to me there's a better solution. Thanks for making the choice easier.

Wordpress pages URL's redirection.
Carlo That is actually very standard WordPress behavior and should happen. Its redirecting the non-slash to the slash version. Either way, Matt Cutts has said inconsistent slashes will not really harm you, but its still good practice to have it redirect. From what I can tell, you don't need to change anything! Hope that helps -Dan

Are meta tags useless?
View the page source (right click + view page source), look in the section. Youll see it - <meta name="keywords" content="keyword1, keyword2" /> Tip: if theres a lot of stuff crammed into the HEAD section, just CTRL-F and search for ``` (meta name="keywords") without the parenthesis

Dealing with thin content/95% duplicate content - canonical vs 301 vs noindex
Hi James, The way this was done is not good, but the idea is right. If the client has 14 different offices, it is a standard best practice to create a unique page for each of them, and, yes, that means unique content. too. Rather than dealing with re-directs and rels, my advice is to reconsider your stance on creating meaningful content for each page. You just need to find a unique story to tell for each page. If the client is a service business, then doubtless, he's got a unique story from each service area to share. Put a minimum of 400 engaging words together, put the complete NAP(name, address, phone), a map of the service area, 5-10 local testimonials, maybe a video of the client at work in the local area and, bingo, you've now got a strong page that's been locally optimized for the community it serves. Are you sure this isn't an option? It will take some effort/funding, but the business needs to understand the importance of taking a high quality approach to presenting themselves on the web, or they are going to be overrun by competitors who are willing to make these efforts.

I would use http://www.domain.com/en/search/london/ (the search-path included in the URL).This has worked quite well for us.

Keyword canibalization
If you have two pages on the same topic that are essentially duplicates I would 301 redirect the weaker one to the stronger. If you have two short articles on the same topic that could be combined into one longer article with more complete coverage of the topic I would combine the content on the stronger URL and 301 redirect the weaker. If these are two distinctly different articles in the same topic area that would not be logically combined then I would keep both of them "as is". My goal in small niches is to SATURATE the keyword spaces with lots of unique, substantive articles so that I keyword cannibalize everywhere. Being called a "cannibal" can be a compliment. Yoummmm!

How much juice do you lose in a 301 redirect?
Arafah, I respectfully disagree with loss of ranking and "link juice" (I hate that term - I prefer "page authority") being a misconception. Matt Cutts himself states that 301-redirects do not pass all the value of the original link. Here's a link to Eric Enge's article/interview with the quote directly from Matt Cutts: http://www.marketingpilgrim.com/2010/03/google-confirms-301-redirects-result-in-pagerank-loss.html
