Best way to get useful followers on G+ lately is have your people and the page active in communities and discussions.  You are much more likely to get interactive people adding than just going out and following a bunch of people - anyone with a decent following isn't going to notice or react to your adding them, as they probably get upwards of 50-100 new people a day adding them.  Most of whom turn out to be spam or fake accounts.  I long ago stopped caring who added me on G+, or even looking!

Since communities, stream following and circle sharing matters less.  So get your page to join topical and relevant communities (and if there aren't any for your niche, consider starting one if you can cope with the overhead of managing/maintaining it - nothing more offputting than a dead community), and get active in them.  If your people are constantly active in the widgets communities, posting good quality info and tech help, you'll gain a lot of good followers.

However, people who've made good/interesting/insightful/funny comments on threads I'm active in, communities are likely to be pro-actively added as I've decided they are worth a try in the stream.

G+ can be a heck of a time-sink, but if you're willing to put the time in the right places it's more than worthwhile.

I've seen conflicting views on this coming from Google, and I refer you to the link in my answer regarding Pete's comments about reconsideration.

So it may be wrong, but there does seem to be evidence that disavow does not action without either an update, or reconsideration.

Hence passing along the suggestion in good faith.

What I take away from all I've read on Penguin 2 is to proceed as follows:

• Clean up your backlink profile by contacting assorted webmasters asking for link removal
• Use the disavow tool on any you can't get successful removal via direct approach
• If you've used disavow, submit a reconsideration request - once you're sure your site and backlink profile is clean.  (I get the definite view that data obtained via disavow is only actioned at algo update, or reconsideration request;  hence a reconsideration may be needed even though you have an algorithmic penalty to actually push the disavow live).

I'd be tempted to hang fire a little while before "fixing" the problem, and give it a while longer to shake out.

We had something very similar around the time of Penguin 2 on one of our sites, and like you for only a selection of our keywords.  Half of the dropped keywords have returned to roughly where they were.  Of the other half most have increased, but are still down compared to pre-Penguin.

One keyword went from 3rd to not in top 50 and back to 4th this week.

Aside from burning a fair bit of time trying to figure out what was going on and if we'd been partially Penguined, I'm not sure I'm any the wiser!  Nothing notable going on with key competitors, nothing news worthy or topical in the sector - just temporary obliteration of around a quarter of keywords.

Depends on how you see the content.

If it's evergreen, and in no way time sensitive, I'd be tempted to place it as a page.  For example a how to relating to the specific product or service they supply is better not lost somewhere in a blog.  Blog entries are great for a Google search, but not so great for an existing customer going to the website and trying to find specific information.

For items that have a sell by date (service changes, new features and the like) and more peripheral content, blog is the way to go.

It's also worth bearing in mind that if you submit your site to DMOZ some categories no longer have volunteers dealing with applications, so your submission may sit in the queue for the next several years going nowhere.  So even if it is important, it's not necessarily achievable  

So submit and then instantly forget about it and stop caring.

I'd be inclined to make the equivalent of a URL rewrite rule in the ASP equivalent of htaccess to only serve www.mysite.com.  Sorry I don't know ASP so can't help with syntax there.

Then I would use canonical url to tell bots which page is actually the index.

Lastly I'd scan your site and ensure that all links on your site, which link to the home page have just a slash, as it's very likely there's a few of each:

This way all to the home page that crawlers see are just the canonical URL.

The crawl is presumably finding pages with more than one h1 level title on the page.

If you're hoping to appear there, you'd better be good and active on Google+, and a good number of sites, have authorship set up correctly and an awful lot of authority.

It's not as simple as having a huge following on Google+, or good authority on several known sites, so as Philipp suggests I'd not be the least surprised to find it is manual.

This week's crawl results were a little crazy for us too.

We dropped to 1 error (-171), and to 48 warnings (-538), yet most of the issues not reported this week are still most definitely there.  I guess roger was having a lazy week?  

Is that a signed out, no cookies search giving you #1?

As I've just searched Google UK and can't find you in the first 10 pages, so it seems the ranking report is about right.

If you were ranking and have suddenly dropped, how's your link profile?  Amy messages in Webmaster tools?

Don't forget to consider how much value landing on a tag page gives to a site visitor (clue: usually none).  It's all very well indexing and ranking for some extremely long tail term via tags, but what's the human who lands on in going to make of it?  (Most likely contribute to that page's 100% bounce rate).

By all means keep tags, and use them consistently to categorise your posts, but as a means of keyword stuffing (as I'd suspect it is with nigh on 600 tags), the time is long since past

It's a bit hacky, but you can 301 them simply.

Create a directory in place of the pdf called document.pdf or whatever, then inside that folder add a default index php (or whatever you're using) to 301 them from http://www.yourdomain.com/document.pdf/index.php to wherever the pdf now lives.

Blog and forum comments containing links are almost universally rel="nofollow" meaning you'll get no value from an SEO point of view.

Course that does precisely nothing to discourage the blog spammers.

We set up our SEOMoz account yesterday, and the initial crawl showed up a number of errors and warnings which we were in the process of looking at and resolving.

I log into SEOMoz today and it's showing 0 errors,
