I have this .com domain which is the corporate website. Next to this domain, we also have local domains. We would like to test with a different meta-description per country on this one corporate .com domain. Does anyone knows if this is possible and how we could integrate this?

Multilingual website in Belgium?
Hi Mozzers,
I have a question about a multilingual website for a client for us in Belgium. As you guys know in Belgium we speak French and Dutch.
The situation:
At the moment we have client.be for the Dutch version of the website and client.be/fr for the French version. All tagged with href lang tags and webmaster tools. The client wants to build a new website. There are three possibilities:
1. We keep using subfolders (same configuration as the current situation). In my head this would be my first choice.
2. We just let them build two separate domains.
client-keywordindutch.be & client-keywordinfrench.be3. We use subdomains.
As the development company is not sure that it is technically possible to use subdomains, I need to know which option is the next best one and which option you would give priority and why? Should we just push through with the subfolder?
Thank you for your thoughts!

RE: Is there any tool by which I can see the traffic of competitor but geographical wise?
We are also using similarweb. As John has pointed out, the traffic numbers are not completely right but we look at trends.

RE: Ranking Not Getting Up
Maybe the answers on this question can already help you. I would watch out with having to many internal links and I think there is still work on your on-page SEO.

RE: No Google Ranking..yet
Hi Brett,
No, I think that's absolutely the way to go. It's difficult for me to propose you qualitative sources/links as I'm based in Belgium. Someone else will be in a better position to answer this question but I would search for:
- communities
- idea/discussion websites
- partners
- ...
I would focus on local sources.
I think the content on the blog will help you. Try to share it on social media for example. At the moment getting links will be difficult because there is no reason yet for people to link to your website (content).

RE: No Google Ranking..yet
You are certainly active in a competitive market. Getting a decent ranking on these kind of keywords is difficult. Execute a keyword research and research the difficulty to rank on them. The keyword difficulty tool is very interesting.
On the other hand there are a few things where you should work on:
- provide more useful content where other influencers can link too. I'm referring to your services and portfolio. The blog you are working on is also a step in the right direction. It might be interesting to have separate pages about the different services with loads of useful information. Also try to link out to other qualitative sources (helping your visitors).
- work on a steady and qualitative link profile. You only have 1 root domain linking to you at the moment. You should try to increase your overall domain authority. There are many articles on the Moz blog talking about this.
Just my cup of tea

RE: How to find the campaign start date ?
Woooops, I thought this was about AdWords. Sorry for the confusion! Mmmm I can't find it too. Someone else?
-
RE: How to find the campaign start date ?
This might be the reason you are not seeing it:
- Campaign scheduling is available for campaign types with the "All features" campaign sub-type enabled. If you're using a "Standard" campaign sub-type, you'll need to go to your campaign's Settings tab and switch your campaign sub-type to "All features" in order to see scheduling options.
Are you using 'all features' or 'standard' as campaign setting?

Just look for the following in your campaign settings.

RE: How to find the campaign start date ?
Hi there,
Open the settings tab of your campaign and then it can be found under 'advanced settings'. Start dates can not be changed for campaigns that are already running.
Hope this helps,

RE: Is My Site Penalized by Google?
Hi there,
My opinion on this one:
I just believe your not ranking well on the more competitive keywords for a few reasons:
-
Your domain trust is very low because you only have 1 or 2 root domains linking to your website. That's not enough to start ranking well on more competitive keywords. Make sure to work on a strong link profile with more qualitative links (from different sources and root domains). This might be an interesting article to read.
-
This remark relates to the previous one but make sure to provide quality content. Content where other websites can link to. You website looks more like a landing page at the moment.
As far as I'm concerned your certainly not penalized by Google.
Hope this helps,

RE: Tracing Redirects to a Site
Isn't this something you can do with the open site explorer? Just fill in the final URL and tick the box 'link type' - 'only 301'.

RE: Use a language extension or a keyword as an extension?
Hi Patrick,
That's the problem. I advised them to not use any extensions. This makes no sense in Holland as they only speak one language over there. The agency responsible for the creation and the maintenance of the website says it is technically not possible to set up the website in Holland without an extra extension. I'm not that technical. What if there is no other way? Or is it not possible that there is no other way?
Thank you so much for your help!

Use a language extension or a keyword as an extension?
If it's technically necessary to add an extension to a domain URL... Should I use brand.nl/nl or should I use brand.nl/keyword as the homepage?
In my opinion it's better to use the language extension as it is much easier for other websites to link to. The client could make a separate page with content about the keyword. I also think it's much more difficult for direct traffic to access the website with this long URL. Any other thoughts?
