There was a Panda update that happened on September 5th. For reference: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-panda-update-19126.html http://www.hmtweb.com/marketing-blog/panda-update-september-5-2014/

What is a "Bad Link" in Google's eyes? Low DA?
That happens for 3 reasons It is a low competitive keyword where EMD is very strong. Low profit (around £0,50-0,90 CPC) He is using automated software like No Hands SEO or GSA which automatically generate relevant blog comments and split the links to follow and no follow so that they seem natural to Google. He will get penalised in the end as both of these tools are ok to use for web 2 properties but people dont know and use it on their web sites (penalty inc) He is probably purchasing good follow links from a high DA and PA blog/PR network, there are plenty around for 100-200 a month. All this make me conclude that your competitor has a money site or a Micro Niche Site meaning he wants to make a cash and dont care for long term goals (check for adsense and amazon affiliate links within the pages). If that is not the case then his SEO guy clearly needs to move forward! Pure 2010 black hat practise.

Google Indexed my Site then De-indexed a Week After
Sorry, I only gave a brief look at your site, but my first impressions was that there was very little content, and many outgoing links. When I try to rank keyword pages I have a minimum of 500 words within the content area, but mostly try to aim for 700 - 1000. Of course this is not always possible, but you have alot of duplicate pages, plus very little text on each of those pages. I have tried to rank local seo keywords with very similar content like that, and I find it takes alot longer to get indexed and might even bounce in and out of the serps for a while. Gaining more authority will help, as will inserting more text as you can insert more keyword \ keywords variations without appearing spammy with the keyword density. I think ultimately without unique content you have to be prepared to wait a while for them to be all indexed, and even then there is no guarantee (although better site authority should help). Also might be worth checking your sitemap structure. I believe there is a limit on what each sitemap can have, so you may need to split it up over several although I believe some plugins do this automatically.

If I only Link to Page via Sitemap, can it still get indexed?
Update - If anyone is curious. IT IS possible to get pages indexed by only linking through a sitemap. Roughly 90% of the pages I did not link to got indexed and are actually already receiving organic traffic.

Getting a Home Page to Rank
Thanks Vadim, that does help. I'm thinking the accordion may not be the best for my site, but I will look into other hide-until-clicked-to-reveal snippets.

Ending URLs in .html versus /
As everyone else has said, it doesn't really make a difference whether you have a file/extension as part of the URL. But if you do change your URLs and 301 redirect the old URLs to the new, you will lose some link equity (typically about 10%-15%); I'm not sure if this devaluation is reflected in OSE/Moz metrics. That said, I would recommend showing the directory without a file extension (using consumerbase.com/ instead of consumerbase.com/index.html). If you change platforms in the future to something that runs off PHP or some other language, displaying .html file types might not be an option but you can always display the directory. If you set yourself up now to display without the doc type, you don't have to worry about these changes in the future as much.

Number of Links for Internal E-commerce Search Pages (and Anchor Text)
I advise you to make them look natural. If you ever went through a manual review they would obviously flag you for spam. I suggest you create your pages with broad keywords. If you make sure your keyword diversity is 1 - 1.5% for onpage SEO your fine. Backlinks are what will rank your site anyways right now, onpage SEO isn't doing a very good job of ranking on it's own for any type of keywords that will send you quality hits. There are a few exceptions out there, but the average site will need backlinks created to a site. Take a look at this page for some SEO hints I just wrote http://moz.com/community/q/does-anyone-have-an-seo-strategic-plan-template-for-a-beginning-seomoz-r Have a great day.

Ability to track previous PA?
Hey Zora, Thanks for writing in. Unfortunately, we don't currently have a way to track PA over time because we only track historical changes within the campaign, which is not based at the page level. We're working on a feature which will allow users to track details on specified pages on their site. We plan to include PA over time in this type of report. It sounds like this will be useful to you, but its not scheduled to be released for a few more months. I'm sorry for the inconvenience that causes. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Do bitly and owly shares on social media help out my site for SEO?
I was just going to say this. I've seen bit.ly/brand_name show up in backlink searches, same with goo.gl. So if they get indexed, they get treated like a link as a 301 redirect.

On-page optimization - Am I doing it well?
Yes you should only have 1 H1 tag per page, I didn't realise the "International Mailing List" was the H1. As Market Stomper said, it was more about UX and separating the paragraphs.

Paid for Yahoo Directory months ago, yet does not display in OSE
I just took a look and it looks like the page was last crawled less than 2 weeks ago. I also looked in GWT and I actually see 7 dir.yahoo links! Woot. Thanks Nakul.

Uppercase in URLs = Dupe Content
Zora you could also use htaccess to rewrite the urls to lower case. See this article on stackoverflow.com Hope that helps, Don

Ranking 1st on Google, but not in top 50 on Bing and Yahoo?
I think we recently dropped, I pulled all these numbers from SEOmoz's rankings reports. Thanks for the tip though, I have definitely made the mistake of being logged into a Google account while checking my rankings in the past!

When do I use no-follow links to interlink on my own site?
Oh no it wasn't a judgement on you just odd that the question is so common currently. As if something happened where confusion was created on a mass scale. Anyway, no apology necessary it's a fair question.

Using Folkd for Video Backlink
Hi ZoraS, In short - yes, I think this site is pretty spammy and I wouldn't recommend putting in the effort to get links there. More than likely these links won't help your rankings much anyway, while at scale they could actively harm you.
