No offence taken. And I understand and agree there are no fast gained sustainable shortcuts to long term SEO - I have this conversation daily! However unimportant it is with grand scheme of things, sometimes you get a new client who will no be educated and only cares about PR - Hence to keep said client you go get some PR for them!

I'm not really going to start selling links on sites with PR that I have created! Thanks for the advice though

RE: Which Google API do you use to creat a rank checking tool?
I need to create somethng that works on the fly, without any analytics or webmaster account

RE: Which Google API do you use to creat a rank checking tool?
Which API do you use though? The SOAP is not around anymore and this page http://code.google.com/more/ doesn't have anything that jumps out at me

RE: Which Google API do you use to creat a rank checking tool?
How does any rank checker tool work then? Say the report you can run on SEO moz.
Or any of the ones that you see here

RE: What is the best way to make use of internal anchor text links without appearing to be a 'spammy' webpage?
I try and keep it to 1 link every 300 words (or page) and I mix up the anchor text so its not always the same to prevent it from looking spammy.
Rememeber you need to link across all your pages, not just have a load of anchor text links heading to the home page

Which Google API do you use to creat a rank checking tool?
I can't seem to work this one out.
Basically I want to make a very simple rank checker tool something similar to http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/ranking-reports/ where a user simply type in a domain and a keyword and in return is shown the position within the results.
The problem is I can’t work out which API's I need in order to build it, does anyone know what I need to poke about with?
It must work with Google and ideally with Bing and the rest

RE: 301 redirects for individual products - should I keep the old ones?
If you set up a 301redirect then theold page will automatically redirect to the new page with imediaite effect, therefore rendering the old page useless I belive?
Are the pages you have 301'd linked from around the old site? If so I would keep them there in order to maximise conversion from users visiting these pages from searching within the site and from organic listings.
I don't belive there is a penatly for leaving the pages live... that said im not certain.
For me at least It would of been better to build the new site and populate it offline, then make the switch with 301's on every page in one swoop so there is no confusion.

RE: Will building up the page rank of a page you have a inbound link bring any benefit?
Do you know of any resource that will support this
As the linking page changes over time (# and authority of links to the page, outbound links on the page), the amount of "link juice" it passes will change also.
I have read reaserch on google only passing the anchor text once , so even if you change it wont. But nothing on the passing of "link juice" over time

Cheers, pretty much on the sames lines as my thoughts - might do some good, but better of building direct links.
Would like to know more about sub question 5 ! My dective work begins.

Will building up the page rank of a page you have a inbound link bring any benefit?
Right then here we go
You have a link in an article on a well known national newspaper site that points at your website. Is there any benefit of linking to the newspaper article in order to build up the PR of the article page and therefore passing over some link "juice"?
Sub questions
1. Would it be more beneficial simply to gain links to your main website?
2. What are the chances of the article going into the archives and then at some stage being deleted?
3. If the article link points to a domain, which then forwards to a another domain will this pass on any "juice"?
4. If the article points to a domain that then 301's to another domain will this pass on any "juice"?
5. Does Google simply register the link and "juice" on the first pass or will it revisit and upgrade the "juice"?
6. What are the negatives?
7. What are the positives?
