Well if there were less links it would probably even make a PR 5 or 6, but yeah.

Also it's actually 3 or 4 pages, but each are indexed individually and have their own PR (between 5 and 7) just because of the way the site structure is (duplicate content!), but still, yes, it would appear to be valuable.

Whether or not it's worth it to you, is another question

I just put a few of the URLs that were already on the page(s) into linkscape and saw what came back, then did a full report once I found one that was pretty much ONLY using that link to rank.

The link I picked was a deep link (not homepage) and only had this link going to it (according to linkscape), checking out the site the domain wasn't hugely powerful with only a dozen unique domains pointing in (none as impressive), but the page linked to had PR 4.

So, while it's a bit of supposition, I would imagine that the link is accounting for most of the 'juice' passing to the page (and indeed the site).

Anyway, Greek characters will give you a lot of headaches, you'll most likely end up with URLs looking like yousite.com/Δήμ after you click on them.

I have to work around a very similar issue and use the Greeklish (although not Greek) to have latin characters in the URLs. I'm not sure if Greek characters are w3 approved as things stand and although the web is getting better at non-latin characters, for the time being I wouldn't use them.

Well, I would recommend you alter the internal links to just point to the new '/' default, but in the meantime...

I would have thought your code would have worked, but every time I try it my site falls over. It might work for you though. Give it a try but test it straight away

There's also a paid monthly SEO plugin that I cannot currently find that will go through your content and rate it, find interlinking opportunities and such like (among other things). Anybody remember what that is? Here it is - http://scribeseo.com/

The only place you would see something in WMT would be DIAGNOSTICS > HTML SUGGESTIONS, and it should show as duplicate title tag and meta description.

WMT wouldn't flag that up specifically because it's not something it really checks for.

All things being equal then /golf-clubs is better; as I assume you'll be targeting that exact term on the page, it's not too long and users can tell exactly what the page is about from it.

As long as your URLs don't get crazy long, if you can target your main keyword for the page with the URL I say go for it.

Sorry Saibose, disagree entirely, canonical is a band aid whereas 301 is a fix.

Something very similar came up earlier, best to 301 them as E-Dreamz says.

If you put this in your .htaccess file you should have all your pages as www. and the index.html will disappear.

Hmm, maybe, I doubt the index.php is doing anything as if there's a index.html and index.php the .html takes precedence.

Check what's in the .php file, might be easier just to delete it.

Yeah, if it doesn't work you'll probably be faced with a blank page or you may get a 500 server error or maybe a 310. It should be obvious pretty fast

Shouldn't be seen as negative unless the directories themselves are in bad standing with Google (and I assume they all have toolbar PR and aren't total spam fests).

As you say, it's probably not going to pass a lot of love to your site, but if it's little effort on you part then taking out any advantage the competition has is a good thing

Hmm, I'd remove them.

The fact that all your individual product pages have a rel=canonical of productsdetail.asp and category level is products.asp is telling Google that all your products pages are the same!

The problem is there are a lot of parameters in your URLs, let me go have a look at how to deal with that when using the canonical tag.

EDIT - Spent half my lunch on this but couldn't find much I would guess you can get away with parameters in the canonical tag so decide which is the official URL and put that in the header for that paticular piece of content. All your content unique? Your links come from sites that may have been effected?

If not then I'd give it a few days to see if they come back (as HR128 says, may just be Google working out what's changed and what to do) and I'm doing a quick crawl of your site to see what I can see

Is it actually rewriting from something like /store/index.php?id=electronics or is it /store/electronics.php (or even /store/electronics/index.php)? Or are you on a CMS that make it hard to tell?

You're trying to get to /store/product-new1 and you're getting a 310?

Did I get the redirect thing mixed up and actually there's another redirect because the real URL would be /store/product-new1/index.php?

The last part redirects index.html to /

There would only be a loop if you redirected / to index.html

99.9% sure this'll work for you I'm using the exact code on a small site right now and it's working fine

Probably the simplest way to redirect the non-www to the www is to put this in your .htaccess file

For reference the .htaccess file goes in the root of your domain via whatever file transfer program you use and of course replace example.com with your domain
