Exactly! You won't be penalized, but your competition will probably make better use of both elements as individual opportunities, and then you'll be outranked.

Thanks, Chris. I always do forget about that, but I'll go check it out now!

RE: Looking for an SEO Expert
We're just looking for a part-timer right now - 5-10 hours a month or so. If you know someone who is interested, please have them PM me here or email jess@imageworkscreative.com. Thanks!

RE: Looking for an SEO Expert
I didn't get it, but can you try again? We're looking for someone to put in about 5-10 hours a month, so let me know what your rates would be for that (as well as your experience).
Thanks!

RE: Best tips for getting a video page to rank?
Agreed. We used to have the video on the homepage, and we recently moved it to a page of its own. I do think we should incorporate it into other pages for the best effect.

RE: Best tips for getting a video page to rank?
Thanks - really good tips! I feel like the lack of text is a huge setback, and as a user, I much prefer video transcripts to having to watch a video. I'll start working on these!

Best tips for getting a video page to rank?
We have a video for our company, located here: http://www.imageworkscreative.com/imageworks-creative-video
It's an overview of our company and the services we offer.
We'd like to get this page ranking, but we haven't had much luck so far. Our Youtube account does better, but I'm looking for some things we can do on or offsite to get this page to rank.
Any tips would be appreciated!

Best Apps for Tracking Google Analytics, Facebook Pages, and More?
Hi!
I'm looking for an iPhone app that I can set up for a client so that he can view data from Google Analytics and Facebook (new "likes," "shares", etc). Is there any such thing?
I'm not a big Apple user, but he is, and I'd like to find something that would work well for him.
Thanks!

RE: Do we need an exact marker on Google Maps?
I understand, and I do have my business (and my clients' businesses) set up with their exact, physical addresses. The issue my boss discovered is that our map marker wasn't in the correct spot (for which he requested edits through Google Maps).
I'm wondering if we weren't placed in the proper spot because we set up our Google+/Places profile as a service area (we work with clients at our office but we also serve clients in their own locations).
I'm also curious how important it is to have an exact Maps listing for SEO purposes. I have some clients (like an HVAC company) that only offer a service area, but I would hate for them to rank lower on Google because they don't have a pin on the map.

Do we need an exact marker on Google Maps?
My business covers a service area, but we would still like to have a precise listing on Google Maps for SEO purposes.
Is it possible to edit maps to set up a specific address listing, or is that something we can only do when establishing the Google+ listing? I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that when you set up a service area in your plus/places account, Google limits how much of your address is shown in maps.
Feedback appreciated!

RE: Tips for Getting a Very Small Site to Rank
This is terrific! I'm going to come back when I've had some time to think and answer some of your questions and see what we can't sort out. I'll PM you then ... there's definitely some private info I'd rather not throw out here, but all of your advice makes for a great starting point, and I'd love to pick your brain a bit more!

RE: Tips for Getting a Very Small Site to Rank
I absolutely agree, and would love to see them do more. We've thought about setting up photography for them, just because we really do need more images for marketing. They do gorgeous work and it speaks for itself - IF we can showcase it and IF we can get traffic to the site.
I really appreciate your reply, and the fighter analogy! Thanks!

Tips for Getting a Very Small Site to Rank
I am working on a very small (two page) site for a client, and trying to rank for some very competitive local terms. The site is www.arlingtonbuilders.com, and our terms center around local cities (like Arlington) plus "custom homes," "custom renovations," etc. I feel very limited in terms of what I can do on the site, and I'm building citations offsite, but I feel stuck.
I'd love some tips for helping them rank better without building out an entire site.

RE: Thoughts on Evan Carmichael for Content Marketing & SEO?
Absolutely, I agree. They still seem to rank on a lot of lists as far as important ways to build SEO through content marketing, which is why I'm asking.
It's a free and easy way to promote, but I don't want to risk taking a hit because of it, or waste my time.

Thoughts on Evan Carmichael for Content Marketing & SEO?
We used to have a lot of success repurposing content through EvanCarmichael.com, but it seems like our articles are being de-indexed there very frequently now.
I'd love to hear some others' opinions on Evan Carmichael and how worthwhile it is to keep publishing there.
Thanks!

RE: Recovering from a Redesign?
No change to the URL. I believe the homepage content was updated, but most of the internal pages remained the same.
I did unique page titles and descriptions and added some internal links. I was planning to do more there, but I don't think that's the cause of our issues here.
The client brought over all the content from their old blog so that wasn't lost.

Recovering from a Redesign?
We recently redesigned a client's website, updated SEO (page titles, descriptions, internal linking), and have experienced a massive drop both in organic and direct search traffic.
We had an issue with the sitemap that I resolved last week, but traffic doesn't show any signs of recovering. What should I expect and what can I do to get back to where we were?
The site is www.rugcare.com, if anyone wants to take a look.

RE: Best way to handle blogs for a customer with a chain business?
I would still like to see some more answers regarding the best way to handle the blog as the sites are currently structured (versus the suggestion to unite them all as one).
-
RE: Best way to handle blogs for a customer with a chain business?
I agree that that is probably the ideal structure. They came to us with the three separate domains to work with, and I think they would like to continue on that way, but I can always mention the possibility of a unified home page.
