Why is Google appending a different website's brand name to the end of SERP title?
That's a tough one. If you want to DM me the url (or email it to me at marie at marie haynes dot com) I'd be happy to take a quick look.

In 2016, should all businesses have a Facebook page?
I think few people are in the circumstance of EGOL, so it would be best not to follow his lead. The internet changes so rapidly that you need to be predictive. What is the next big thing? What will Facebook do? In my crystal ball, I think that Facebook will take on Google and Yelp. They are already trying, but I think they'll get better at it. So, if Facebook becomes Google, most businesses will want to be there, with a Facebook Page that has a good number of likes and a couple updates a month at least. No need to go overboard, but make sure the page doesn't look abandoned. Plus, Facebook and the other social sites rank really well on Google. Does a business want to give up that real estate? When someone looks up my company by name in Google they see Company website Company Yelp page - with 5 Star Rating Company LinkedIn Page Person LinkedIn Page Company Facebook Page - with 5 Star Rating Company Angie's List Page Some stinky competitor trying to rank for my biz name Personal Experts Page Company Groupon Page Thumbtack Consolidator Without social, people would see several of my competitors who try to optimize for my name "Get on the Map" and some dull profiles from websites like Manta.

Does anyone know what causes the long meta description snippet?
Is this here to stay, do you think...? I'm so wary of Google's changes, I don't think I'll be lengthening my titles to make better use of the width until the dust settles a bit. EDIT: http://www.thesempost.com/new-title-description-lengths-for-google-seo/ (inb4 Google rolls back to the previous layout in one week's time.)

Anyone else noticing "Related Topics" featured snippet? Is this new?
Sending the searcher to another ad-ridden SERP doesn't surprise me. Google is the ultimate ad-pushing scraper site. The Related Topics featured snippet seems to be quite similar to the People Also Ask feature that usually appears below the featured snippet separately. I've seen no mention of them on getSTAT's Featured Snippet whitepaper either, and that was quite thorough SERP research. How new are Related Topics? Or am I being silly, and they've been around for a while?

Noindex PPC landing pages or optimise for SEO?
Our clients have bespoke CMS's developed in-house, with additional functionality built in if a client needs something different. But I think it would be a great idea to ask our developers if we could start making this standard across all new websites. Definitely seems like something that will make life a lot easier in future... Thanks again for your help!

How does Google treat special characters in titles?
Thanks for your input, Dan. I won't be using slashes but I was curious as to how they would work with Google. The category page I had in mind at the time, I had just merged the multiple subcategory pages into the one main category due to cannibalisation evident in rankings (and I was experimenting with how to optimise browser title for previous subcategory-related keywords). The single page is already outperforming the separate pages, but thanks for your suggestion
