Tool for tracking actions taken on problem urls
Maybe I don't fully appreciate the power of excel but what I am envisioning seems to require more than what excel can provide. Thanks for the suggestion though. I will think about it some more.

Homepage outranked by sub pages - reason for concern?
Is your blog hosted on a subdomain? Personally I have noticed that Panda is sitewide but the subdomains might remain unaffected. In our case, our ecommerce site with 6,000+ pages got affected but the blog (subdomain) actually increased in traffic due to better content, more social signals and other factors.

What tools do you use to submit a site to local yellowpages?
The only tools you need and SHOULD use are your fingers and mind. Firstly, there aren't a great deal many to have to go through so set aside a few hours and you should have covered all local yellow pages you can find. Secondly, You want to make each submission slightly different when it comes to your business description, so you need to use your mind here to rewrite things slightly differently in each case when you can. Google will appreciate seeing references to your website on pages which aren't identical in content. And i've often found as your're thinking about differing descriptions you come up with new ideas and as a result end up with descriptions that read better as you go on. Thirdly, You want to ensure you can give as much information as possible on each profile you create, and each site you create profiles on will differ slightly in what they allow you to add. Some will be very basic, some will allow lots of information and different sections to be entered. E.g. Business hours, On site parking availability, photos & images etc. Hope that helps and leads you to do it the write way

Google analytics now showing social signals
Well the simple answer is that I made a mistake. It popped up again today and after doing some research yesterday and this morning I realized it is being populated by an extension that I have for chrome (started wondering about that when it showed up today in Chrome but not FF). The social stats are being populated by the SEO Site Tools extension for Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/diahigjngdnkdgajdbpjdeomopbpkjjc Evidently this feature works intermittently as I have never seen it before and it only worked once yesterday and only on this page and I have been using it for about a month (for some odd reason it doesn't work on any other page). So apologies for getting you all excited. If you want to read more about the tool SEJ did a review on it a while back: http://www.searchenginejournal.com/the-seo-tool-that-may-make-you-switch-to-google-chrome/20672/ Cheers

Google Analytics Benchmarking Newsletter: How does your site perform?
Hey Aaron, good point, hard to always keep that in perspective. The reason that I am concerned about it is because from what I understand google is taking those metrics and using it in there search results. We have a landing page that is full of good content, people spend an average of over 4 minutes on it (a single page) and it had a good conversion value, however it had a high bounce rate. We have seen the number of impressions where this pages shows up decline quite substantially over the past month and I am wondering if it is do to the high bounce rate. So if the search engines are incorporating those stats, as much as it might not mean anything in terms of user experience (i.e. we are actually providing a good user experience), it might mean a lot for how the search engines rank you (i.e. they just see a high bounce rate). Thanks for the response!

Bing Update?
Thought I'd post a follow up on our 6 months later to see if anyone else has seen a similar pattern in Bing rankings. Peaked at the end of June (compared to previous average rank) Declined by ~15% to end of July Same until end of Aug Declined by ~20% until end of Sept Improvement of ~15% until the end of Oct Decline by ~45% in mid-Nov (pretty much back to same levels) as beginning of June levels - mention on WebmasterWorld about this: http://www.webmasterworld.com/msn_microsoft_search/4389293.htm Same until now There have been changes to the content on the site, so not too surprised at some of the results, but would be good to know if the regularity of changes to the Bing algo has been seen by others...

What is the effect of a proxy server replicating a sight on SEO
If the server was not publicly reachable (i.e. just on their intranet), then there would be no issues. If the server was accessible to the public, then as long as the site was blocked with a robots.txt file search engines would not index it. There would be no reason for anyone to link to the site, so it should be invisible to search engines. At least Google/Bing will respect those settings, and they are all that really matter. I would be most comfortable with the above but if you want to be extra cautious you can set up a canonical for each page back to the main site. You would need a script to either add or modify the canonical tag on every page.

Tool for scanning the content of the canonical tag
No idea on that one - it's still pretty new. The developers actually chimed in on the post, so you could ask them in the comments.

How is link juice split between navigation?
Hi Keri, thanks for the follow up. As for the specific question no I have not really found a concrete answer. Currently we have left the duplicate navigation alone and focused on more pressing updates. Sorry that I don't have more info to share.
