You can use a form as described here. http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/textsubmit.shtml You can also ask the affiliate site if you can place their shopping cart code on your site.  Most carts will even allow branding themes that you can use to make their shopping cart have the look and feel of your website.  Your customers will be checking out on the affiliate program site, and their URL will be shown in address window.  Although there are ways to make it look like a subdomain on your site.

Hi Peter, I believe you're referring to a David Deering article on Whitespark (http://www.whitespark.ca/blog/post/50-how-to-make-your-local-business-schema-better) from earlier this year. I would trust pretty much any advice regarding citations published on Darren Shaw's company's website and I think that's a great article from David. I'd like to know more about his/Darren's experience with seeing quicker citation pick-up using sameAs. I'm not sure if the speed they are citing comes from something Whitespark has noted handling the massive numbers of citations they manage, or if this is something David Deering is experimenting with on his own, or what have you. The folks are extremely nice and friendly up there in Canada, and if I were you, I'd reach out to David and ask him if he can tell you a bit more about any phenomena they have documented regarding use of sameAs, to see whether any gains in speed would warrant you investing in implementing this. I've not seen any side-by-side testing done, but maybe the fellows at Whitespark have done some? Great topic!

Hi Russ, I don't quite understand why I would need to add hreflang tags. I don't have .com versions of any of my pages,  I only have a .com dominant homepage when I do search for my branch name in serps. Or am I missing something here ? Can you please explain a bit more ? thanks Pete

Thanks Craig, We are basically a tool hire website but previously as also had a number of mini sites which just specialised in one aspect of what we hired, so for instance, we had a carpet cleaner hire website and a generator hire website as well. This helped to give us a larger SEO footprint and until the start of 2014 was proving very successful. By we got a penalty(due to some links from myguest blog which an seo freelancer did for us ) and this took a few months to clean up and we also then stopped the microsites for saftey as well. I will check the traffic from the 301 domains and see if I can remove them. thanks pete

You raise some very valid points and something I hadn't picked up on - the fact that currently my internal structure is referencing urls which are not the same as what the canonical tag is set for. Key point by Rebecca, use data to make this decision.  I just 410'ed almost 800 old pages/articles from a website I help run.  They were all republished press releases that were at least 2 years old, they got less than 9 organic pageviews over the past 6 month period and no link equity.  You have to do some work with merging this data from GA and OSE, but it is worth it.  I could say that when I deleted these 800 pages I was not losing significant traffic or links and I was improving my crawl efficiency with Google and potentially a quality factor with Google as they were not having to look at crappy old content.  Another way to say this is that if users were not visiting the pages nor were they linking to them, how could they be useful and if anything would make my site look less reputable to them. Cheers! FYI - the spider Screaming Frog (one of my fav tools) just integrated with the GA API, so you can crawl and get GA data combined. (You can also just play with GA filters as well).  If Screaming Frog can get the tool to access the Moz API - BOOM! That would make this work so much easier.  (Hint hint mozzers this would be an amazing tool for the Moz crawler as well!)

If you are the author, and want to start building a reputation as an authority on this topic, adding authorship markup can be a way to do that. You probably won't see much "SEO benefit" in terms of increased rankings, traffic or snippets in the current Google algorithm, but I think Matt has a good point in that it has the potential to be used as a signal again in the future.
