How Bad is it to Not Have a Home Page?
It should make no difference, because Google will consider /funny-memes/SOME_RANDOM_IMAGE as your homepage. But people would link to just chucklebot.com, not that long url. Why not just serve the content from /funny-memes/SOME_RANDOM_IMAGE on the domain name.. Google would actually like updated content on the page, and if people build links, they will build links.

Keyword Rich Domains on Same IP
Not really sure why the IP address would be of any importance. It doesn't really matter if you will or will not link from the old to the new, or that you will link sitewide or not, IP address is still of no concern. However, I would not recommend a sitewide link, if you want to do that then a better approach would be to create a page on your old website. Which is probably a better solution anyway, if at least your old domain has high authority and you can create any kind of landing page anyway, doesn't matter if it is on the new or old domain. As for black/white/grey/purple/blue/pink/blond/brunette, if such a thing exists in the first place, that has to do with your execution of the plan, not the plan itself.

Optimal Structure for Forum Thread URL
I suggest using that. Would give you better rankings for that topic and then some juice can go to your threads.

Pros and Cons of a Single Page Forum Thread
This could turn into merely a debate of opinion. For example, in my opinion, multiple pages are more user-friendly. My advice would be to find some research data that indicates which format is more preferred by the majority of users and do it that way. User experience before search engines always.

Why Would PageRank Drop From 4 to NA?
There has not been a PR update in the past few days (as far as I know). Therefore it is doubtful that your browser PR return is steered by G, but something else is overtaking your stats. Your site is hosted on a shared domain. If something happens to any of those sites, your site would/could see an immediate effect. I would move away from sharing the same URL and go for hosting on a dedicated server. Good luck!

Can fun, slightly unprofessional text be good for conversion rates?
Here's my two cents. I run two web sites offering the same service, one in the UK and one in Italy. One of the qualities most people remember me by from what I heard (and what I've been told) is my sense of humour. Last year I decided to incorporate this in my two sites and the results could NOT have been more contradictory. The UK market seemed to respond better to my naming the services and membership statuses in a humorous manner than their italian counterparts. I actually lost two Italian clients because they took offence to having their membership status as 'Principianti' which in essence means newbies. I want to add that there was no rudeness in the humour employed by either site, I simply did away with any formality. Result: Perhaps some A/B testing would have been clever in hindsight but ultimately what I lost with this experiment I more than made up for in clients with a sense of humour!

Handling Deleted Pages
Thanks! You've confirmed my fears. The first link redirects to the 404 page because that game was deleted - thus demonstrating the severity of the problem. Here is a link for a game that wasn't deleted. I'm torn on possibly nofollowing all of these pages unless a conversation has been started like here, because they don't contain much content. In fact, I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of somebody searching for a game result, and find that I may be more likely to bounce from a matchup page than a 404 page. Oh, the decisions we face!

Home Page Optimization
I use to have a footer like you mentioned, but took it away to reduce the total number of links on the page. I only left the links that weren't already in the header. Is my strategy bad? I guess that question answer's itself if SEOmoz does it.
