What are some strategies to outrank your retailers who use the same page content as you?
(providing you are the first to be crawled and indexed/noted with this content) I am quite certain that first to be crawled/indexed does not determine who gets the rankings - or even who will appear in the SERPs without being hit by filters or Panda problems. The more powerful sites who are publishing the content often get the rankings or survive the filters and Panada. If you want to avoid this problem put that essential content on an image. Then add enough additional content to make a substantive page. Require your resellers to use that image if you don't want them to have Panda problems or be filtered on duplicate content. Then add enough additional content to the pages to make it substantive enough for Google to index and rank.

Is there a general rule of thumb of how many times your core keyterm should be mentioned when optimizing for a page?
Nothing is set in stone as far as number of times a keyword should be used. Although from experience I find 5 or 6 is more than sufficient. But Mike is certainly correct up front for title and H1 and that would get you off to a good start. Other areas to pay attention to would be making sure you don't have conflicting or too similar keywords in your text also. Recently saw a paragraph with 15 keywords and probably the same amount of synonyms of that keyword bunched into a few lines.

Link Building: High Ranking Site vs. Relevancy
When link building, is it acceptable to link with a site that has high authority but has minimal relevancy to our site? - If you are being offered a link from a high authority site from a good industry - take it. You have already done all the work and Google is not great at discounting non-relevant links. Also, if we are publishing articles on other sites, should we also publish them on our own site? Should we add "nofollow" if we publish them in our site? - My recommendation is publish great articles on your site first and foremost. And I would not distribute them. Why give others great content? If you are doing article distribution for links, then send out your "not so great" articles and link back to your appropriate webpages.
