It's not surprising really. Yahoo uses Bing to pull in organic search results and has been doing so for quite a long time now.

The first problem I encountered with that site is that it's very slow. The images in the slideshow are around 150KB each.
I really think you need to focus on a lot of on-page optimization before off-page is even considered.
As Brad suggested, them guides are a great first step to finding the best practice. You really can't use 10 keywords in a URL and also, you can't target 10 keywords per page. You should be focusing on a keyword or at most two keywords per page. If you go beyond this, you might have keyword cannibalization problems.

No problem Neil - Just focus on the end user and the decisions should be easy to make in regards the footer etc.
I mentioned page load time issues with Twitter because of experience I've had. It's always been 3rd party content which has resulted in site speed issues.
Social media feeds/widgets are just sometimes not worth the issues they can cause.

How long will it take for specific keywords to achieve high rankings?
This really depends on the level of competition for these keywords, the amount of on-page and off-page work you do and so many other factors. No one can guess a time frame for this.
If your client is being quite forceful about this, you really should pass that 'Beginners guide to SEO' onto them as well. Achieving rankings takes time. And even then, there are no guarantees.

I think you're worrying too much here. Google's algorithms are not harsh enough to penalize little blips like this in a persons back link profile.
If worried, you could do as Fredrik suggested and setup a WMT account for your site but I honestly feel like you've nothing to worry about.
I've been victim of an unnatural link warning from Google but it was justified due to 1000's of unnatural links built by a previous agency. In your case, you had 1500 links live for 24 hours. I'd be surprised if Google crawled and acknowledged them all as backlinks to your site. And even if they did, that many links means very little since they all come from one domain.

Just to clarify, the complete number of backlinks to their site is 13500? I would be quite cautious about deleting 90% of them. I'm sure some of them stand out as more toxic than others. It would be worth focusing on them first.
I know a lot of people have mixed opinions about link cleanup (whether it should be done or not) but if you managed to delete even half of the poor quality links to the site, it should be a clear enough message to Google that you're taking the warning seriously.
If a re-inclusion request fails, you could go deeper then.
To be fair, Google will not send him an email to say he should use this tool.
If there was an issue, he would have received a message via WMT indicating there was quite a lot of unnatural links pointing at his site.

Without going too much into depth with analysis, it's easy to see your title tag for that page is keyword stuffed.
Also the page hasn't got any great content on it.
In terms of the overall domain, a quick look at your backlinks reveals that you haven't done much off-page link building.
You just need to do a lot more work unfortunately.

To be honest, the homepage is a bit of a mess. I know you rather not hear it but, your site needs a lot of work.
Visually it's quite off-putting and the very large section of text you have on the homepage is stuffed full of keywords.
This is how Google sees this page -
'Monster Bins' is bolded and used over 10 times.
It's not clear what payment method your website accepts and to be quite honest, I would be very hesitant to make a sale on there.

You want the title tag to be 'A Place To Rent' ?
Or do you mean on category pages you will have 'Dublin | A Place To Rent ' ?

Agreed - A full audit covering SEO related issues and usability is required.
I do feel that focusing on SEO when there are much more glaring issues would be a pointless exercise.
Generating traffic to a website is not an effective use of time when the landing page isn't optimized for conversions.
I would suggest hiring a graphic designer for some freelance work and working with someone on a full audit to prioritize the biggest issues.
I'd be surprised if the site is generating quite a large volume of sales as it stands. It just doesn't convey trust and reliability from my perspective.

I thought I wold jump in as no one else has so far. My suggestions are noted below -
If we take the article you just linked to as an example, you can see that markup has no been applied to it.
If you can't find a suitable Joomla SEO plugin (apologies, my Joomla knowledge is poor so I can't recommend one), you need to add the below HTML to each article and tailor it.

I would also suggest improving the content a little bit. The title of the article is 'Top American ski resorts for over 50s, but the content of the article doesn't make it clear what the top resorts actually are. The body of the article would benefit greatly from more information about the resorts in a clear format, and possibly with added images.
The alt text for the image seems a little spammy - 'skiing holiday ideas'. The alt text of an image should reflect what the image is about.
Random suggestion, I find it strange that your logo doesn't link to the homepage
The title tag of your site doesn't contain your brand name. Worth putting at the end of the title tag.
I could go a lot deeper but hopefully that's a starting point for you Diane.
