Canonical Tag in Magento - SEOMoz Tool Warning
SEOmoz, or any other tool on the web, won't be available to tell you if the canonical URLs are set up correctly or not. Instead they can give you a notification that the specific page has a canonical URL. An advice in your case, do not use automatic canonical generation for ecommerce websites, because you might end up with two different urls with the same content having the canonical urls pointing to themselves. Page A will tell Search Engines that Page A is the original version of the page, while Page B will tell Search Engines that Page B is the original version. If you would be the Search Engine, would you be confused? I usually use the notifications that I get from SEOmoz to check and try to avoid situations as described above. I hope it helped, Istvan

Dropped to 45th spot. How to track ?
GWT is clean. And we never had any paid links or something special. All we did was concentrate on social sharing, good on page optimization and then good blog posts about those keywords and social bookmarking mostly. Thats all. Very odd.

What more to do for such a client
I'm going to be a little harsh here. Does this website know your level of experience? Are you charging them appropriate to your level of experience? The methods that you have used so far are not likely to make a huge difference in today's world of SEO. And, depending on how you are going through with this campaign you have the potential to do harm. Be very careful about what anchor text you are using. Overdoing social bookmarks and directories can cause a site to be affected by Penguin. See http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/are-seos-destroying-small-businesses-a-penguin-story Reciprocal linking done on a large scale can get a site penalized. A few reciprocal links are not going to get a client penalized but are not going to be terribly effective as compared to one way links. If you are not certain what else you can do for SEO, it's totally ok to ask questions and learn what works to rank sites these days but be careful that you are not doing your learning (and making mistakes) on someone else's dollar and with someone else's livelihood.

Link building for eCommerce website (Software Products)
Well how about getting people in the industry to review your software? Giving away trials or even free copies/downloads and asking them to blog about it and they will naturally link back to the product pages or even the category/subcategory pages for these products? I would start there. Also are there any industry blogs that you could guest blog on? And what about your own internal content? Do you write tutorials or installation guides? Start cranking out your own content and leverage internal site linking.

Few questions regarding Rand's Over Optimization Video
1. no thats fine, i believe from memory he was talking about excessive footer links. 2. not so much wrong, but proably a waste of time, PR% means little, as it does not mean the page you get your link on is PR5 and if the link is easy to get and serves little purpose other then giving links, then google is probably discounted the site and there fore will not pass anything. 3.you have to make that judgment yourself, but if anyone can get a link, there are no hurdles to pass, then its proabaly no good. 4. article sites are not worth anything, Matt Cutts has said as much, better of putting the articles on your own site and hope somthing links to them, Article sites are designed to get a link, Google knows that. 5. It has been that way for a while. Matt Cutts has said that some Directories still hold value, look for relevancy, a auto directory would be good for a auto site, a local directory is also good for local site, but the best links are earnt thougth good content that people want to link to. Asking people to link to you is a good way, but must be dome with style, just saying can i have a link is going to get you know where. do not buy links at all. Depending on the product you can look for bloggers or sites on your subject and say, we can send you a few packs of our product if you are interested in doing a peice on us. If they are interested say and oh can you link to us using this link text, thanks. There are many people that blog for nothing or are searching for their next idea, so they think why not. Sorry no easy answers. But hope it helps
