Hey,

What are some great tips for gaining social shares on ecommerce product or category pages?

I understand great images and video will go along way, but it's difficult on a large scale ecommerce store.

Receiving an offer for sharing something is great - I honestly cant think of a way to track this strategy in a large scale manner. I can send an email after a purchase making an offer to go back to the page to share, but how would I track this?

One of our clients has a store with over 30,000 indexed pages but less then 10,000 individual products and make a few hundred static pages.

Ive crawled the site in Xenu (it took 12 hours!) and found it to by a complex mess caused by years of hack add ons which has caused duplicate pages, and weird dynamic parameters being indexed

The inbound link structure is diversified over duplicate pages, PDFS, images so I need to be careful in treating everything correctly.

I can likely identify & segment blocks of 'thousands' of URLs and parameters which need to be blocked, Im just not entirely sure the best method.

Dynamic Parameters

I can see the option in GWT to block these - is it that simple? (do I need to ensure they are deinxeded and 301d?

Duplicate Pages

Would the best approach be to mass 301 these pages and then apply a no-index tag and wait for it to be crawled?

The client does not want to be associated with a physical location making directory listings very difficult.

Sponsorship is a great idea though.

The guest blogging is perhaps the stand out method of link building in this case. The industry is about a new Australian Government scheme, most of the users will be information shoppers. As such, I think going down the video path for content creation is a great option which I will suggest.

• It's a lead generating 'side business' that has no physical address (nor do they want one associated)
• They will 5 or 6 static pages
• They have no resources to spare for social media activity

What would you do in this situation?

A few new clients have blogs hosted on blogger & blogspot, the first advice of mine is to set up a blog hosted on their company domain.

It's usually easy to convince them of the benefits.

What should happen to all the content on the existing blog?

One blog in question has over 100 entries, good content with a lot of links back to the business domain. The blog itself has less than 10 links pointing in but a domain mozrank 3.5.

In this example, my gut is telling me to leave it as is, and start fresh on the own domain.

What about if there's less then 10 posts? At what point should the content be moved over to the new blog?

Most things they mention in the video is quite contradictory to everything SEOmoz teaches about link building.

I have on-page optimised a client's website

Now take a look at the Title Tag & Meta description of the front page. This is the correct updates I have made -

Title: Practice Management and Financial Consultants to the Health Industry
Description: Award winning Health and Life have been providing accounting, tax and practice management services for Medical, Dental, Allied Health businesses.

Now, take a look when the business name is Googled. Notice how the Title Tag switches back to the original, yet the Description Tag is Correct.

Now, take a look when the owner's name is Googled. The Title Tag is now correct, but the description is incorrect.

• Ive set the preferred URL to be the www version
• Ive spent ages in the custom CMS trying to find what could be causing this
• The developer says it's a "Google Thing"

Anyone have any ideas?
