RE: Hyphenated Domain Names - "Spammy" or Not?
Yes I agree and I have had success with hyphens in the past, but I firmly believe they are less likely to be successful than unhypenated websites (but that's in hindsight). As to whether the hyphen played a part in the success is another question entirely, it may have been for a multitude of other factors which I never tested at the time.
Have you conducted any research on this, might be worth doing and then publishing the results on your site, would be of great value.
Think the only way to test this would be to launch two sites, optimised and written as identical as possible (but not the same content for obvious reasons), also best to use different server hosts and see which one ranks best, would be pretty conclusive.

RE: Hyphenated Domain Names - "Spammy" or Not?
Is cool Michael, the info comes from a reputable source with facts behind it, but if you have your own proof that hyphenated urls work that's good. :))

RE: Keyword Difficulty
Thank you Sha

"I'm sure you know already that you dodged a bullet by losing that client Lee :)"
Agreed, I had a bad feeling about them at the initial meeting, the second meeting merely convinced me they were a bad lot. Thought they were very controlling, inflexible and negative towards new concepts or embracing social.
So yeah in hindsight I'm glad I lost the contract, but I did learn from the experience which is a plus :))

RE: Google Games
MMmm that's strange, would have thought Australia would have it before the UK. Not trying teach you to suck eggs but the link is top of page as in the attached image. Did a search too and the launch appears to be world wide.

RE: Keyword Difficulty
"content on a retail site it gains an enormous advantage over competitors (who do not have that type of asset) in its ability to climb the SERPs."
Perhaps I should hire you to convince my clients! Just lost a potential contract for suggesting this (insurance company). All of their content was very poor, one news post had 27 words and included 3 keyword strings - Couldn't believe what I was seeing. They told me I was being too negative lol I thought I was giving constructive feedback.
Good points though, appreciate your thoughts,
Lee

RE: Keyword Difficulty
Thanks for your advice Egol always appreciative of your insight

Am new here so my question was more from the perspective of getting a feel for the tools and how to use them.
Before using SEOmoz all of my data was taken from SERPS (i.e. experience, knowledge and hunches) and am hoping that the tools would compliment this.
Elaborating somewhat on your second paragraph:
Wouldn't the numbers be indicative of quality?
I'd also prefer to take a balanced view, I'm sure you do this too, by taking both into consideration, the numbers and the quality of the content, which of course I can only do with sufficient knowledge of the tools.
Thanks, Lee

RE: Keyword Difficulty
Thanks Kyle,
like what you said about "void of any helpful context in and of itself. The more meaningful data is the underlying metrics of the pages competing"
Shame .......... was hoping for a faster starting point, but I guess it always boils to drilling down and defining the data.
Thanks

RE: Keyword Difficulty
"In other words if it says "70%" but the site I'm trying to rank is already IN spots 1-10 somewhere this is much different than trying to pick keywords for a brand new site and getting it to rank from scratch."
Thanks Dan, this is what I'm trying to determine, most of my business comes from new sites, so while they have a little age, from the sense of rankings I'm trying to identify new phrases on sites with no previous seo.
Would have been a little more helpful if that percentage gave me a better idea of the impact on a new site, but I guess we can't have it all.
Thanks for the tip though will certainly broaden my search, perhaps look for moderate to low, but as you advise, look for weak off-page competitors.
Cheers, Lee

Keyword Difficulty
is probably a "how long is a piece of string" question but wondered how to use the keyword difficulty tool, particularly in relation to the % and the wording moderate, what are these actually saying?
Perhaps some of you could give details of how you use this tool and apply the % and term to real world situations,
Thanks in advance, Lee

Google Games
Following a thread here thought I'd login to G+ only to notice the new Google games tab, lol you've gotta give em A+ for trying ......
Think Google should try to be a little more original, wondered what everyone else thought of this new addition?

RE: How do you make multiple Facebook Like/Welcome pages?
Glad you sorted it Stephen lol

RE: How do you make multiple Facebook Like/Welcome pages?
Is surprisingly easy to implement if you have css/html knowledge, just create your design and upload it to web-server, create an app that links to this and then create a new tab that links to the app.
"Apps on Facebook are loaded into a Canvas Page. A Canvas Page is quite literally a blank canvas within Facebook on which to run your app. You populate the Canvas Page by providing a Canvas URL (the location of your design) that contains the HTML, JavaScript and CSS that make up your app."
If you need more detailed info inbox me.
Is pretty awesome, means you can add pretty much anything you like into a fb application, video, forums or anything that is web based such as contact forms and signup etc.

RE: How do you make multiple Facebook Like/Welcome pages?
I'm assuming you mean you want to add the likes that you have in that image so that they are clickable? To accomplish this you'd have to use css/html to create the app opposed to simply including an image.
Is then up to you where you put the like buttons.
Alternatively if you're wanting to create new tabs, then a separate app needs to be created for each discussion.
Sorry if I've misunderstood ur question, not 100% on what you mean by "behind the "like us"

RE: Link Blocks
no problem, tbh I struggled a bit writing the question :)) See attached though, much appreciated.

RE: Link Blocks
Ah, many thanks to you both

would I be right in assuming links from the same C Block would pass less juice or would none be passed?
Also just to clarify, the figure in site explorer shows 192 what is this telling me? Not sure if this is what it is describing but the figure for "Total Linking Root Domains" is 240.
lol sorry, so many questions

Link Blocks
Sorry, perhaps a noob question.
In relation to site explorer, have also searched and unable to find any information, wondered if anyone could advise as to what "Linking C Blocks" are? Found under the "Compare Link Metrics" tab.
Thanks in advance.
