This echoes the sentiment behind EGOL and Ray-pp: as much you need. Don't throw text on the home page just for the sake of having more text on it for SEO. That's the very definition of spam and thin content. If you don't intend for anybody to read it, don't keep it.

If they serve two very different functions I could see the advantage. Does your client already have the the multiple websites? Or are you looking at splitting up their current site?

The worst, in my opinion, are the unethical ones. Case in point, a web developer scored a job to create a website for a popular government owned (.gov) attraction. They added a, SEO Services page (TOTALLY irrelevant) to the site, and linked back to their site with it.

Hello Sylvia, I think, a part of, the answer to your question is in the FAQ of the Keyword Difficulty Tool, the search volume data for keywords is collected from the Keyword Tool via the Google AdWords API ( ). So the data within the Keyword Difficulty Tool should be the same as in the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. We tested this a couple of months ago and from my own experience I can say that it is matching, but hopefully there is somebody around from the SEOmoz team to confirm your question. Happy analyzing!

With directories it's all about getting links and anchor text. Will links harm a site? Never, if they have some quality. If you like the quality of directories i think you should go for it.

Thanks Aaron.  The client listed about 16 cities that they do business in.  Do you think limiting that list to about 5 cities is a good idea? thanks
