What will the SEO and conversion implications of an ecommere website not moving to https be?
Hi Just to jump in on this, the site I work on hasn't transitioned to full https yet, but the login, basket & payment pages are all https. What is your view on this? I;m aware we need to transition the whole site, but I need to push this with the dev team at our parent company. Thanks Becky

How to deal with canonicals on dup product pages in Magento?
Hi Kerry, Magento handles this very well by default when you simply enable canonical tags. It canonicalizes all product URLs (no matter how many categories they are in) to the root level. Eg. for the following product URLs: www.site.com/category1/product-name/ www.site.com/category2/product-name/ www.site.com/category3/product-name/ Would all canonicalize to: www.site.com/product-name/ I've worked on many large Magento sites and this has always worked very well and I've never seen an issue with it. Cheers, David

Increase in spammy links from image gallery websites i.e. myimagecollection.net
Hi Kerry, I have also been seeing a huge influx of these links from image directories and have had a hard time finding out more information about them. Finally, someone else seeing this same thing! I've been disavowing them but there are so many and they just seem to keep increasing. Would love to hear from more mozzers if they have been seeing these and if they are harmful.

Do business citations (without links) on penalised website have a negative effect?
Hi Kerry, Excellent answer from Patrick. I just want to add a bit to it. For local businesses, directories are very much still part of the picture. I, too, am curious about the nature of the directories your client is listed on. I'm assuming they are not major directories like HotFrog. Would these be niche directories, specific to your client's industry, or something along those lines? If so, do you sense that there is something fishy about the directories or the client's presence on them?

Should the whole div box be linked or individual elements within it?
Hi Kerry, This really depends, in most cases people only link the specific elements instead of the whole DIV box. For example what we did at TNW is: http://take.ms/tibb9 making the summary not clickable while the other elements in a featured posts are. I think that will make it more clear for users what they can click on instead of clicking by accident on something and then being redirected. The best answer would be to test this to see how users react to this. So set up your A/B testing tool ;-).

URL structure for categories, sub categories and products
Hi Kerry, Certainly in your circumstance, it makes sense to keep everything structured, as long as plastic wallets do fall within badge accessories, of course. There would be little point trying to go down the route of keeping everything just one level up from the domain as this wouldn't allow for any crumb-trail that made sense, and people like a nice easy way to go back to a particular area. Sorry, I forgot too add that as long as the navigation is clear and google has an easy route to follow, there is no reason why your current structure won't be just fine. I hope this helps. -Andy

Google Places UK address has randomly changed to a US address in Texas!
Are the addresses unique and not shared with any other business? https://maps.google.co.uk/?q=Tall+Trees+Cottage%2C+Winkfield+Road%2C+ASCOT%2C+Berkshire%2C+SL5+7EX I've heard of some real strange behaviour if the business does not have a fully unique address in some cases getting merged with another business, although I cannot see the connection here.

If the order of products on a page changes each time the page is loaded, does this have a negative effect on the SEO of those pages?
Hi Kerry, Masoko has a good point. If the URLs of the page change each time, there will be a different affect than if it's the same URL or you use the canonical tag on them. So, an example would be helpful. That said, assuming the URL stays the same, then the question is whether the content is just changing order or different content/products are being displayed. If the same products are displayed, but in a different order, then you may see some minor fluctuations in rankings because the content is shifting around, but it shouldn't be much. This could affect both the rankings of the category page and the products displayed on the category page. However, since there really isn't any such thing as static rankings, you may not even notice. If different products are being displayed every time, then you may see some larger fluctuations, especially if you don't have much other content on the page other than the products. Again, you may see changes in the rankings both of the category pages and the product pages. Kurt Steinbrueck OurChurch.Com

What is the best way to optimise a site that wants to target one service in multiple locations?
yes. Your goal is to keep those pages from getting buried in the subdirectories. So based on your service areas, I would go /london, /brighton etc. etc.
