RE: Using copy from a current site on a new one
Hi Joe, I apologize for the slow delay. I did not get any notifications of replies to my question.
Does your suggestion apply even if the old website will be taken down? (Which is the case)
thank you, Kirk

Trying to get Google to stop indexing an old site!
Howdy,
I have a small dilemma. We built a new site for a client, but the old site is still ranking/indexed and we can't seem to get rid of it.
We setup a 301 from the old site to the new one, as we have done many times before, but even though the old site is no longer live and the hosting package has been cancelled, the old site is still indexed. (The new site is at a completely different host.)
We never had access to the old site, so we weren't able to request URL removal through GSC.
Any guidance on how to get rid of the old site would be very appreciated.
BTW, it's been about 60 days since we took these steps.
Thanks, Kirk

Using copy from a current site on a new one
I have a client who is closing down his local business because he'smoving to another state. When he gets there he will launch a new website. On his current website, he put in a lot of work and has a ton of good copy, including blog posts that have helped gain him excellent rankings. He's asking me if he can use that copy on his new site and get original author credit for that, like he did on his current site. Can he use the same copy from his current website on his new websitewithout any problems — and get original author credit for it?Would it be best to shut down the old site or to 301 all of the pages beingmoved to the new corresponding pages? If 301's are the way to go, how long should he leave those in place? Thanks!Kirk

Crawler triggering Spam Throttle and creating 4xx errors
Hey Folks,
We have a client with an experience I want to ask about.
The Moz crawler is showing 4xx errors. These are happening because the crawler is triggering my client's spam throttling. They could increase from 240 to 480 page loads per minute but this could open the door for spam as well.
Any thoughts on how to proceed?
Thanks! Kirk

RE: How important are clean URLs?
What if you have a client with a LOT of ugly URLs that need to be cleaned up?
The plan is to create 301 redirects for every page that we change. But, let's say we're talking about 50+ product pages.
In your opinion, is it a problem to make that many changes at once?
Would you paste them out?
If so, how many at a time?
Also, is it a problem to have that many 301's on your website?Thank you!

RE: Do we need to update All hardcoded links moving from http to https
Thanks Gaston,
I have several good links, especially one from MOZ that I don't want to lose, so I'm trying to be super careful in this transition. Is there more rank-juice loss if you use the domain level 301 instead redirecting each page individually?
I appreciate your input.

RE: Do we need to update All hardcoded links moving from http to https
Gaston,
Is your recommendation to redirect EACH INDIVIDUAL PAGE from the http version
to the https version, or is this something one could do all at once at the domain name level? Thanks,

RE: Moz was unable to crawl your site? Redirect Loop issue
Hey Guys
I'm getting the same redirect loop error today for one of my client's sites. We have not changed anything on the site recently and it worked perfectly in Moz Pro Campaign for several weeks, so what's happened? The same thing happened to another client of mine a week ago. Their site crawled perfectly in Moz for weeks, but all of a sudden Moz could not crawl it because of a redirect loop issue.
The site is http://aprilrandlelaw.com/
FULL ERROR MESSAGE
We were unable to access your homepage due to a redirect loop, which prevented us from crawling the rest of your site. Your homepage is likely redirecting to itself. Because we can only crawl if we find unique pages, the redirect on your homepage is stopping us from crawling past that page. It is possible that other browsers and search engines are encountering this problem and aborting their sessions as well. We recommend eliminating any unnecessary, circular or indefinite redirects on your homepage. Also, make sure your site is not mandating cookies, which can cause circular redirects and make crawling more difficult. Typically errors like this should be investigated and fixed by the site webmaster.

RE: Will Multiple 301's to the Same URL Cause Issues?
Thanks Michael,
That is the route we have taken with our client it seems to be working out well, so far.

Will Multiple 301's to the Same URL Cause Issues?
Hey Everyone,
We have a client (I don't have permission to disclose) that has just attempted to create better URL's for their site, per our direction. In the process, their website platform kind of took over their renaming attempts and instead of creating the clean, short, descriptive URLs we all wanted, they got convoluted, longer URLs. This all happened within the past 3 or 4 days.
So, they went out and got an add-on that's going to help them create better URL's. In the meantime, they now have the original page/URL plus two new ones for a total of three. No 301's have been setup yet. When they create the new and (hopefully) improved URL tomorrow, will it hurt their rankings to have three pages redirected to the new one?
Is a 301 redirect the right method for this issue or should they do something different?
Thanks in advance,
Kirk

RE: Top Local Organic Rankings, But Nowhere to be found on Google Snack Pack
Hey Miriam,
That is interesting...and complex! Considering the location of the user at the time the search take place makes so much sense...especially for Google to rank them that way.
Unfortunately, that also makes it harder to help clients who want to be in the top three all the time.
Thanks so much for your time and insight.

RE: Top Local Organic Rankings, But Nowhere to be found on Google Snack Pack
Hi Miriam,
This is a great response. I have one question; how can one tell what Google's industry cluster is for a city? What is the standard or resource for measuring an area where a client is located?
Thanks!
Kirk
