I think the mentality behind that is it would be too easy to manipulate. People could just buy expired domains and redirect them to their website. I am going through a similar issue with a website.

I would put your old website through Moz's opensite explorer and identify the backlinks. Then I would reach out to all the domains that linked to your old website and ask them to update the link.

Also, did you do a domain level redirect or redirect each individual page?

That should help you out some.

I think the low domain authority may have something to do with no backlinks to the new domain. From what I have read and experienced domain authority is not transferable. Even though the redirect is in place your new domain does not benefit from the backlinks/authority of the old domain.

What you could do is reach out to websites linking to the old domain and ask them to consider updating their backlinks.

Why yes they can. You can actually leave off the Index/Follow tags. By default Google along with other major search engines index and follow links, pages etc.

You may have already done this but have you implemented noydir and noodp meta tags?

Have you created segments within Google Analytics for organic traffic being referred by Google that is specific to Canada?

Did you submit a nested xml sitemap? What you could do is segment your sitemaps based on categories then you could see if there are: no index tags, robots.txt blocking a section or maybe those pages are too deep.

For now I would check to see if anything has a no index tag and review your robots.txt file.

Is it possible to beef up those lower quality pages with better content? If they are important main content pages I would imagine you would want to improve those pages.

However, if you were going to block them I would recommend a  tag within the header of those pages.

According to a test done in Search Engine Land, Google bot can crawl and index those links in Javascript. So you should be fine.

It appears the websites you are commenting on may be flagging the links your adding as spam. I would move away from commenting on blogs as a form of linkbuilding.

You could see a drop in ranking. It is difficult for a single web page to be relevant for a large set of keywords for searchers.

Breadcrumbs help with navigation purposes and are there for the user experience. Personally, I feel as though they provide a greater user experience.

I would do some analysis work and put a heat map on your site. Try using hotjar they have a free subscription model that I think will come in handy. You can also see where users are clicking the most etc. Do you some research and analysis work before removing elements. Also, Google is not going to de-index pages just because you remove bread crumbs so you have no worries there.

Personally after looking at your attachment I would remove the entire far right column and widen all the other elements. You already have the "click here" button and everything else seems a bit redundant.

Use Moz's keyword research tool to identify good keyword opportunities for your company. Write useful content and build backlinks. I would start off by reading the beginner's guide to seo before you do any work though.

It is a nightmare sometimes. I've done a few audits and found everything from important blocked resources to important landing pages that are only accessible in a pdf format.

Well, there are a lot of SEO issues in the higher ed space I've seen. Since that would not be considered a "publicly facing department" I would imagine that would be overkill. My rule of thumb generally is if it provides good user experience go for it.

When I run the local search I see two verified listing for 'Ashbury University' with different addresses I would consolidate those first. Also, according to Google's guidelines 'Publicly-facing departments that operate as distinct entities should have their own page.' As long as the name is different from that of the main campus you will be fine. Keep the other buildings listings open.

I think this is a unique issue I think there might be a few different ways of handling it. I am assuming those buildings have different addresses and specific functions. The first option you can claim those local listing etc in local directories and properly fill out the local information accordingly. Or the second option would be to just maintain one listing for the school overall.

I would use Moz's local search tool and see how you already appear in the listings. Personally, I would lean towards having one local listing for the campus and if you have separate sister campuses I would claim those as well.

Since Google can crawl them I am inclined to say yes however, I would imagine that it would not count as much as other types of backlinks. It certainly would not hurt to ask users if they found your content useful to drop a link back from their website as well.

Well for one thing keeping and maintaining a keyword map that is map out to all the url's you want to target might help. Also, consider adding modifiers on keywords that you suspect might fall victim to cannibalization.
