Hi everyone
First off for local seraches I rank very well pretty much all on first page and high up too. I am also attempting to rank well for the search term 'independent mortgage advice'
I currently rank third on page 2 for the above search term. I am happy with this progress as the site is only 3 months old.
I am UK based, have a .co.uk domain and although my site server is located in Germany (1and1) I have changed the geographical location in webmaster tools.
My competitive domain analysis gives me the follwing results:
Compared to my competitors around me these figures are terrible so why am I doing relatively well and how can I increase some of these figures such as Domain Authority & Domain Mozrank?
The page I'm referring to is http://www.keystonemortgages.co.uk
I am a novice so please don't mind calling me a numpty if it appears obvious to you
Jason
PS is it frowned upon to post links with title keywords here?
Thanks for the responses guys - Robert is the yahoo directory woth the $299 a year? I have registered with Dmoz already
all of the directories that are listed seem to be based in the US for US companies - am I missing something?
By the way my target audience is solely based in the UK,
Thanks,
Jason
Hey thanks for the fast repay Ross
Would I place that in the head section of the index page like this -
Thanks again
Jay
On my site www.millsheating.co.uk I have the error message as per the question title.
The conflict is coming from these two pages which are effectively the same page:
I have added a htaccess file to the root folder as I thought (hoped) it would fix the problem but I doesn't appear to have done so.
this is the content of the htaccess file:

Thanks Sha - It looks like its been updated whilst I was sleeping
Same /\
I only have about 7 or 8 links to my site (new site) but OSE says there is only 1
It says last updated 19/08 and is updated every Friday but nothing has changed.
I know I have back links to my site from about 5 or 6 websites and most of them even show in my Google webmaster account but according to OSE I only have 1 inbound link. Is it normal for the OSE stats to be wrong?
I really want to use it but am worried the info isn't going to be accurate.
yes it really does help thanks and I will definately try your suggestion regarding the list title.
btw shared your page on twitter
Thanks for the feedback Erica I'm very conscious of creating content that does actually add value hence not littering my site with sales spiel and false promises.
However having a site with rich content is no use to me if no one ever comes to the party so I'm trying to balance seo with good content. I'll take another look at the home page to see if I can tone down the keywords a little - I've noticed the chat thing intruding on the content as well. I think it will have to go.
Thanks for the reply - I read it on the seo cheat sheet on this site that using these tags on your keywords help your rankings. I agree though that it could look spammy if over done.
How are you checking your rankings? If you are simply typing your keywords into Google and clicking search make sure you are signed out of Google and that you have deleted your history because as I have found recently I got all excited that I had managed to secure position number 1 for the term mortgage tutorials only to sign out of Google and find myself in position 7 (which I was till happy with but not quite as happy as p1)
Not sure if this may sometimes explain erratic movement but had I not have picked it up I would have thought I was being penalised and made changes when I didn't need to.
I've read that these 2 tags both carry equal weight for seo purposes but in my opinion it looks a little spammy when you see keywords in bold type face scattered over your site. So will they still carry the same weight for seo if I applied a class to them that turned them back to normal?
Thanks Daniel!!!!
Looks like I'll be spending some time in the ol Q&A section
This is what I have added does it look OK?
