The noindex,follow tag on paginated pages will not compromise your sites integrity with Google. I think it's important to look at your site as a whole and divide the number of all pages by paginated pages.  If the ratio is above 10%, I would be concerned that the site may appear to be more of a directory and it definitely would make sense to noindex the site. Also, there are paginated pages with just a bunch of links and other paginated pages with a lot more data surrounding the links. The fact that others are ranking higher probably have more to do with overall site content and PR.

Make sure the pages aren't blocked with meta robots noindex tag

Fetch as Google in WMT to request a full site recrawl.

Run brokenlinkcheck.com and see if their crawler is successfully crawling or if it's blocked.

In addition to Tom's response, you can also use Google Webmaster to remove the site out of the index a little faster:

Follow these steps to remove a site or directory from Google's search results:

1. On the Webmaster Tools home page, click the site you want.
2. On the left-hand menu, click Optimization and then click Remove URLs.
3. Click New removal request.
4. Type the URL of the directory you want removed from search results and then click Continue. (How to find the right URL.)

   • If you want to remove the whole site, you can leave this blank.
5. Click Remove directory.
6. Click Submit Request.

Make sure you aren't accidentally linking to the dev site from your live site. I have seen this happen too many times.

As long as the path is crawlable that extra folder has absolutely no benefit or any negative effect on SEO. Keywords in folder name / URLs to not help push rank.

Is the homepage showing up as indexed in Google - do a site: search

If you did link building to your homepage (like everyone always does) with your keywords and now it's not showing up that's probably a penalty. You know the words you used as anchor texts for your link building, are those words no longer ranking?

Also does your site name rank IE if your site is  besttraininguk.com are you ranking for besttraininguk - if not you have a trademark suppresion

Yes I would think Google would consider it spamming - there are wat too many instances of Celotex in the copy.

I would look for places to remove instances of Celotex where not needed.

6000 pages sounds like improper pages are getting indexed, unless you have 6000 articles which i doubt.

I would block the /tag/ and /category/ and /2013/ type of folders. Yoast plugin will do that for you. Then you're down to just content. If the anchor texts are overdone that could hurt you and I would disable the incontent interlinking if it's overdone for SEO. Then you're left with compliant pages that won't hurt your site, and if it's content that is unique and not spun type of junk I would just leave it on the site since extra content on the site is a good thing, even if the blog posts aren't generating much traffic or ranking. It could be linked to less prominently on the site like in the footer so that less PR is getting passed to it and users aren't visiting it as much from the main pages. Users and PR is staying focused on the main site.

No they all get crawled and considered for indexing providing that you don't have too many URLs in the file and the file loads for Google.

I always put the homepage first though, and i break out sitemap files into sections of the site because my site is millions of pages.

You can leave the priority tag out of the sitemap.xml.

yes, one website with subfolders is definitely best.

makes no difference either way for SEO, just be consistent with internal and external linking - choose one way and stick to it.

also. even if your site redirects to www you can still promote your site as mysite.com and not www..mysite.com so makes no difference for promoting.

That isn't a huge number and image links don't pass semantics like a text link does so it's probably ok because images don't push rank, but I would nofollow them anyway because Google keeps changing the rules as they go.

Hosting location is no longer important for SEO, go with a company that is reputable, has 99.9% uptime and is fast, maybe a VPS. Make sure there is no downtime when doing the switchover. Just because a server is in closer proximity to your users doesn't mean it's going to be faster. It's all about performance and reliability, and a hosting company with good support is important too.

Never change domain names unless it is no longer the companies name, or in case of a massive penalty. I've seen so many sites do this and lose all of their traffic. Also, if the new site is a different architecture there are important SEO considerations to make sure you retain as mush PR and traffic as possible.

if english is the sites main language i would put that in the root, not in a en folder

since the LI language pages are under the main root, create a /li/ folder and then 301 redirect the root domain urls to these new ones.

then create new root domain urls for the english version, they need to be different urls than the old LI root domain urls which won't be a problem.

That's perfectly fine.

It's bad, don't engage in buying links on paid directories if you are trying to build links. Google may or may not penalize them depending on the amount of links and the ratio of good to bad link pointing at their site.

Do three things

a) add the meta noindex

b) add the search section you don't want crawled to your robots.txt file

c) request url removal in webmaster tools

doing the first two steps will ensure that the pages remain unindexed after you remove them in WMT
