If the subdomains are added to WMT google will know about it. if you are designing sites for clients and putting them on your site as subdomains it behooves you to make sure 100% that their dev sites are not being seen by Google. It's duplicate content and your subdomain is the original source of this content. Looks unprofessional too

a) verify any subdomain you are creating for a client in WMT

b) block it in robots.txt and noindex nofollow all pages globally

c) for the ones that are already indexed, go into google WMT and go into that subdomain account and request removal of the site in Googles index. This will remove the indexing for that subdomain only don't worry it won't remove your main site from the index.

The more attractive the better IMO if you want it to get shared, just use optimized images that aren't bloated. If you think people will be inclined to print it, then light color images, not heavy black that just eats up your ink cartridge.

Most likely Google penalized you for over optimization. Google sees this keyword stuffing as being spammy.

a) only one instance of each keyword in your title tag and meta description.

b) lose the meta keywords tag completely across the entire site

c) check the keyword density in your content and lower it if needed

d) check the varying of anchor texts internally and externally (people linking to your site)

The first question I would have is why?

"The issue here is when I combine my content widget with my shop widget page, no one buys anything."

You can include all of your content on the shop page and hide it in a jquery and the shop page would look almost identical to how it is now, but that page would rank because of the content and the user would be one click closer to the purchase than if they were to land on the information page first.

I would suggest doing that and only having one page per product with the information on the page in a way that does not negatively impact conversion rates. Some a/b testing may be in order, A/B testing is always in order anyway for conversion pages

You really need to look at all your pages especially the /catalog pages and see if they can be considered quality content or are they are just a bunch of links.  I would noindex,follow all those pages until you can spruce them up. Basically, your site looks like a big link farm. I also found serious SEO infractions and formatting  issues with your meta tags and microformats. You should also have canonical tags on every page.

Separate sites are better than subdomains, but you probably could have done this all under the one main domain.

If you're doing interlinking i would nofollow the links, or if you need to dofollow the links then i would only link from the microsites to the main site.

It's an onclick event handler that redirects the URL when a user clicks on it but the search engine just follow the link regularly since javascript is not enabled. it is a dofollow link. PR sites use it often

You mean in your sitemap.xml?

The canonical tag is a tab that goes on pages to let the bots know which URLs you want to get credit for content. So theoretically, your sitemap.xml file URLs should be very similar to your canonical links you are declaring in your metas.

Don't repeat the same keyword twice in your meta tag!

Use your main keyword phrase exact match at the beginning, secondary after that. if the name of your domain is widget direct then it's already in your domain name so you don't need to add it to your title tag.

assuming "widget program" is your primary target and your secondary target also has "widget" in it go with something like this

Use the plural to avoid repetitiveness and lost the company name also to avoid repetition. It is better for the secondary keyword to not have an exact match than to spam your keyword title.

directories are better than subdomains. subdomains are seen as different sites, directory allows you to have one main site and pass the PR throughout the entire site to create a stronger enterprise.

OK you can redirect www to non www, or non www to www. Google is fine with either way so that is not technically a mistake unless you have domain associated set in WMT for www - then this is an issue because you are sending mixed signals.

Verify both www and non www versions in WMT like they are two separate sites, then go into the non www site account and request it to be removed from Google's index to help speed up the process.

yes noindex,follow category and tag pages. It's the Yoast default setting i believe.

Don't even worry about it, just make sure they aren't broken links still on your site. Two 404's is nothing to lose a wink of sleep over. If you fixed the dread links they'll phase out of reports

Might sound like a silly question, but did you set up a WMT account and verify the site? Doing so tells Google to crawl your site ASAP.

If you don't have any links to your site, then simply opening it up to the world isn't enough for Google to come along, you need to tell Google you exist.

I'd noindex the page, block in robots.txt, make sure your sitemap.xml is not generating these URLs if automated, and if there is a main folder where all the user generated pages are then request removal of that content in Google WMT.

Have you called the hosting company? They may say that you need to switch to a Linux box, and they migrate everything over for you. Or maybe they can help you get your redirects in place on their end.

Have you looked on the actual page, it could be a javascript on the old page 301'ing to the new if you don't see it in .htaccess.

So someone was posting articles on your site that linked to other sites like paid links?

If you removed the posts no need to block them in robots.txt because they no longer exist so will not get crawled anymore. Yes definitely request removal in WMT URL removal tool and get those pages out of Google's index ASAP.

You're probably OK. Just keep your fingers crossed and an eye on rankings and run a tight ship so that doesn't happen again, definitely something you can get penalized for. Good thing you caught it quickly.

EDIT: if you meant that you let spam comments get posted live/approved by the admin then all you can do is remove the spammy posts and make sure your comment settings are set to need admin approval before getting posed live. No need to block in robots.txt or remove URLs in that case but it doesn't hurt. If the links are off of your site you should be fine.

Make the site a homepage only site that says "website account has been suspended due to nonpayment" hehe that would probably be effective

I would not redirect it to your site for legal and ethical reasons.
