Htaccess Issue: URL not resolving properly
The problem is the order here. Remember that redirects fire from top down. In this case, you're telling it to redirect the main page, then redirect the secondary page, so what you get is / redirects to http://www.mainsite.com/tshirts.html and then it tries to redirect /blue.html but it's already done the previous redirect, so it tries to append blue.html to this and you end up with what you did, http://www.mainsite.com/tshirts.htmlblue.html

Site Merge Strategy: Choosing Target Pages for 301 Redirects
Typically, no. You can see a discussion on this on another Moz Q&A here. There are exceptions to this rule, like when you're using AJAX and have a #!, but in your case, I'm pretty sure Google would ignore the filtered version of the page.

"sex" in non-adult domain name
The things you make me Google ... I agree - and I checked just to be sure but yes, you should be safe. (On the other hand, ExpertsExchange.com changed their domain name after it was mocked about a billion times. They now have the hyphenated version.)

Merging Niche Site
Folding or merging websites should be done when possible. The fact you are on this blog querying same shows that you are properly considering the implications of the fold. Take your time to do it right. Consider all options. A poorly executed fold can have sustained detrimental impact - seen it a few times when Bosses pull the trigger and demand speed & nothing else, no room for thought allowed. I would recommend drawing a site map of both sites and then considering the impact of the re-directs for each page - mapping/planning it out. I know this is about technical and the boys have that covered but also think about brand, mail outs, informing your data base. However you connect with the customers make sure you have that covered. The customer comes first. Finally on examples - we have done several mainly eCommerce sites where the blog has been a separate URL not even a sub-domain. None have gone backwards and a couple of them popped immediately after the fold. Ultimately great outcomes for all. So I have confidence. Just make sure you are doing what you are doing now considering the unique aspects of your website and how you will capture those aspects in the fold. Good luck.

Lost Rankings Late April Even Though We Have A Mobile Site
If it is a drop in organic desktop traffic, then that won't be caused by the mobile change (as Andy said). Out of curiosity, what are your percentages of organic traffic by device? Does mobile account for a sizable amount of your organic traffic? I'm wondering if mobile is being mis-reported as desktop? While I'm doubtful that mobile usability issues would cause a drop in desktop traffic (assuming it is legitimately desktop traffic not being mis-reported), one easy way to test this would be to take a page that get lots of organic traffic that has mobile usability issues reported, fix those mobile usability issues. This ranking factor is real time and page by page (see Search Engine Land), so you should see some results quickly if that is the factor. Another question for you - what exactly did you change about your product descriptions? Meta description, on-page text, both? Are those the pages that lost traffic? Maybe try reverting back and see what impact that has. I'm guessing you don't want to share your domain here, but feel free to connect with me privately with the website URL and I'd be happy to take a look at your domain more specifically to see if I can spot anything else that might be causing this issue.

Disavowing Links: Over-optimized Anchor Text
No manual action. I have seen some fluctuation in rankings, and I am trying to figure out if it is Penguin related. Thanks for the help.

Links to category pages unnatural?
From 100 links, 40 pointing categories looks ok for me. Google is against link building practices and follows such practice ( PENGUIN ), so if you want to do link building and not get caught, you need to build a very natural link profile: - Anchors: Do not use the exacly keyword you want to rank as anchor, instead use long sentences including your kw. - Variety: Do not get just "keyword" links, links with url, branch are also important. - Nofollow: It´s very important to include nofollow links in your link profile. - **Footer/sidebar: **Avoid links from footer/sidebar, specially if they are nofollow. - **Variety of domains: **Get your links from different domains. - Avoid links fromk penalized websites: It´s also very important to analyze the domains your site is going to be linked are healthy enough. Duplicate Product Pages On Niche Site
Haven't read anything or experimented with using canonical link elements to indicate your preferred domain. You should have server redirects in your Apache/Nginx config file for this and also set the preferred domain in GWT to really take care of that issue. Yes, Google will certainly decide for you if you don't have other indicators on which site you want to rank for select keywords. I suppose you'll need to decide which site to keep, but if you want both then you've got a lot of work ahead of you. Ideally, you should be ranking each product page on each site for unique keywords rather than duplicating efforts and wasting resources on trying to rank the same product page on two different sites for the same keywords. Not sure why anyone would want to do that for any other reason than testing. Anyway, my strong advice is pick a site and then merge the other site into it. If you're using Magento or WooCommerce or some other mainstream e-com platform, this should be rather easy, if not just time consuming. If they are different platforms, then I recommend Magento or a custom solution for best technical SEO features. If you can share more details about your job, I'd be glad to help.

Should I Forward Niche Site To Main Domain?
If this not really a manual penalty then disavow will take a long time and seeing the rankings nad traffic back will take months. The reason I will suggest not to 301 to the sub category of the main site is because if it was really under the red light, it will hurt the main site as well instead of helping it. What you ideally should do is to make sure you disavow all the bad links, now create some high quality links to different part so the website and see if this help you with rankings and traffic. One you see the rankings and traffic is recovered, then if you want 301 is a safe bet. Hope this helps!

What are the lowest acceptable metrics for a link?
Like others have said, DA is just a number and in today's Googles eyes, it's all about relevancy of the page, rather than the page authority. Also a site might have a high DA, but if the link juice doesn't pass down to the page where the link is, DA is irrelevant. how about looking at links in a different way. Instead why not image Google doesn't exist and the only way to get relevant traffic to your site is from other websites talking and sending referral traffic (through a link). You would then only place links where you know you would get decent traffic and sales - think like this and you will get the relevant links and rank nicely. DA and numbers are irreverent then, it's all about relevancy

Content Writing Service Recommendations
There are multiple options you have and no option in my opinion is bad! Option 1: Here the idea is to research some companies, interview them and ask very specific questions about how they can help you achieve your desired goal. If anyone sounds a good fit for you, just check their testimonials and decide if you want to go for it or not! Option 2: If you want a content producer to produce content for your blog then my advice would be to search for popular bloggers within your niche. You follower wonk to see who they are and then contact them to se if they can work for you! Hope this helps!

Google PLA: How to deal with product options
Well this is a very interesting post. I had this issue before and the way I sorted it was to make sure that each product variation was updated individually to Google Merchant centre (with a custom label for the Product_Group_Id - so I can group them by their parent product.) with its own link which includes the preselected options. Works really fine for Magento 2 the only problem I came across is that this will only work on drop down options and not for the text swatch. I hope this helps a bit!

Do Internal Link Anchor Text Count Towards Overall Ratio?
Internal anchor text would most likely not dilute your anchor text profile for good or bad. I believe a Google employee did confirm internal anchor text would not be penalized by Penguin...external sources pointing to your site with anchor text could though. So that paints a picture for you.

Dealing with Penguin: Changing URL instead of removing links
Hi, no I haven't needed to, so to be fair to you (which doesn't come across in my original reply to you - apologies), you are right to be cautious. My thinking, based on what you said "I either haven't been able to make contact with webmasters, or they are asking money to remove the links", was that if you have done those things then you have done what Google asks in trying to mitigate the issues. In other words, you have demonstrated you have tried to do the right thing. In that case, then disavow is an option for you, but maybe, in hindsight, with 20-30 links affected that represent <5% of your backlinks, then you should do nothing and concentrate on further offsetting their impact by growing more good links. What I wouldn't do is pay for them to be removed. IMHO, for sites that are trying to earn money from holding sites to ransom then that only encourages more sites to ransom. If the site is asking for payment as a sort of "administration fee" (which I still think is unreasonable) then maybe ask them one more time. If the links are genuinely bad and the host site(s) have more than just yours, then they are endangering their own site by keeping them. I hope that helps. Peter

Still a good idea to have a niche store?
If your niche site is working better for you right now there seems little point in 301-ing it to your main site. Not only do you risk losing rankings (as your main site may not rank for the terms your niche site used to), you've already said your main site doesn't convert as well - so even if you get the main site ranking in place of the niche site, you'll still likely lose sales. If I were you I'd keep the two sites for now, as Gary says don't interlink them and try to make sure the content isn't exactly the same. However, I would encourage you to consider what you might want to do in the future. Where do you want to invest your time and focus your attention? Do you want to improve your main site, or your niche site? Continuing to invest in both (i.e. dividing your resources) may mean you're left with two sites which are just 'ok' rather than one really great site which might not be the smartest move long term.

Sudden drop in rankings and indexed pages!
Hi, there are hundreds of reasons why a page can drop in rankings for a keyword, so it's impossible to tell what's going on without knowing more specifics. Some common reasons for drops include: Overly optimize anchor text Losing links Google devaluing previously valued links On-site changes Technical errors Google algorithm updates Competitors improving their SEO Poor user metrics Etc.
