Google Maps: Submitted Feedback Changed Results
Wow, Garret - that is interesting! Sounds like some type of personalization you ran into, but it's the first time I've heard of something working this way. Really strange. Have you tried to do it again? I'd be curious to see if it happens again. I hope someone in the community will have further feedback on a similar experience, but it's the first time I've seen something like this reported. Curious!

New google maps listing was showing & now is not
Hi Garret, I have some questions and then some thoughts for you: Where was the listing ranking before you claimed it (what letter)? Where did it rank after you claimed it (what letter)? When you say it is showing up in Google Maps, what position does it have in the list view? Is there any chance that claiming the listing might have drawn Google's attention to the accidental existence of you having more than 1 listing in existence for this business? Have you searched for duplicates? How good is the client's organic authority? Did you notice a general ranking shift at this time for any of the client's competitors? Could Google have coincidentally been reordering results at the time you claimed the listing or has everybody else in the pack stayed in about the same position? Some ideas: read through this article to check off potential issues with ranking failures: http://moz.com/blog/troubleshooting-local-ranking-failures The other thing I'm thinking of hearkens back to my early days in Local SEO. It seems to me that I remember instances in which a newly claimed listing would appear high in the packs for a brief period of time, then fall off to a much lower position and then would have to climb back up the rankings based on effort/strength. I haven't heard this phenomenon being mentioned in many years, but I wonder if it might still exist here and there. I'd highly advise looking into the duplicate listing possibility and do go through the article I've linked to:)

Why Custom Post Types Don't Get Ranked Well
There is nothing about custom post types that is inherently different from posts. The biggest issue is making sure you properly set up the site structure so that they are interlinked well with the rest of the site. Depending on your SEO plugin, make sure the right URLs are in your sitemap as well. Other than that, you could be having issues with newer content taking longer to rank, but it's not an issue of custom posts vs. posts.

I need to hire writers.
Zerys and Skyword are both decent options. Craigslist and Problogger can be good options as well. No matter where you go, you'll want to hire a few writers and select the best ones to write additional content. Don't give a writer an order of 10 articles without being sure that they're producing good content for you.

Why does _______ site rank so well and __________ doesn't?
Hey Garret, I would definitely say that the domain age plays a role, but I feel like your focusing way to much on why they are beating you, and not enough time on why you don't rank as well as you used too. In looking at your site you have used the word Juicing over 20 times on your homepage. Plus two times in the Title Tag. It just doesn't look natural at all. I think you've probably been penalized for over optimization more than anything else. As for why they out rank you, their social cues are really strong on the facebook side(over 1000 likes), and they seem to have spent a lot of time creating a site that caters to its users. The resulting experience for users is probably more time on site, more pages viewed, less bounces, etc. Google ranks sites that provide the best experience to its users(the searchers). Not because of exact match domains, title tags, or h1 tags. Those techniques are all things that SEO's have manipulated over time and just don't work they way that they used to. I think you should go back to basics, back linking is great and all, but you have a really strong backlink profile already. Create an awesome experience for the users of your site through good quality content, a consistent UX, and stop focusing on the keyword Juicing so much. Good Luck!
