Blog/Shop/Forum site structure - are we right to make these changes?
Ah, yes that does change things a bit! In that case go back to your first post and do what it there. I'd agree that if you are changing the store anyway then having that as the root make sense. Your checklist is pretty good. I'd add "build new links to the new categories" too. However I still think that the key to success for a site like your is getting the content closer to the product. You need to get the stock next to your content, where as it sounds like you are doing the opposite (putting content in to the shop). That is OK if it is supporting the sales process, but try to think of everything flowing towards the shop not aware from it. Sounds like interesting times.

FF SEOMoz toolbar issue
Thanks Nick, changing the settings for cookies by itself didn't fix this. FYI I had to do everything you suggested and then uninstall the toolbar before reinstalling it. This worked and everything is fine now but where I had tried uninstalling and reinstalling before, without the cookies tweaks it didn't cure the issue. Thanks for you assistance

Best keyword traffic analysis tool for long tail search terms?
This may not help with PPC as much. I use concentrateme.com it allows you to import directly from Google analytics and gives you a visual layout of keyword analysis. The program also makes recommendations for long tail keywords. Ranks.nl has a very useful tool for suggested keywords (it uses Semrush date)

Best method to stop crawler access to extra Nav Menu
I agree Alan, Mega Menu's are a good way to dilate the link equity of your page and in most cases it isn't needed at all. Keep the top-level navigation simple and have a submenu on all pages that contain links relevant to that section. EG: Mega Menu could be: Home Mens (Mens Tops, Mens Jeans, Mens Coats), Women (Womens Tops, Womens Jeans etc) Contact us In this example it would be better to have one top level menu for: Home | Mens | Women | Contact us Then when your in the men or women section show links to "Tops", "Jeans" and "Coats". That way those links are relevant to the section you're in and reinforces the structure of that section to search engines. After giving it further thought I would suggest not having a mega menu at all, because it may harm your SEO on-page optimisation efforts in the long term.

Help us define a category/product structure please
Thanks, that's helpful. We've got a flat URL structure and we don't have category info in the product urls so we're all good there I'll aim for somewhere in the middle, where the category page can introduce and explain the range, then there's a product page for each product model, with some drop down choices for fitments. That system was well received in our customer tests and seems to make most sense to me. Just a minor point, but you might want to check your definition of an SKU btw.. The whole point of a 'stock keeping unit' is that each sku relates to a specific variation of a product, and this can be used for stock control and purchasing. So in your example of the pants, although I can see that there's a parent product which all the variations belong to and it makes sense for this parent product to have the product page with the 6 choices on, I would expect each of the 6 product options to have their own individual sku in the back end of the store. regards, James

Keep our category navigation in tree structure but move our URLs to a more flat structure. Good plan?
In which case I guess it comes down to how impactful any disruption might be....i.e., how many links do you have built up against your existing URLs? If there isn't many - then its probably worth taking the jump and re-writing stuff now. Ben
