Best Keyword Tool
Thanks for your input. Has anyone tried SE Cockpit? It is a bit expensive but seems to do a comprehensive job and uses data from SEOmoz.

Finding new keyword research tools
Hi Doug, Give this post a read, http://www.seomoz.org/ugc/the-beginners-guide-to-keyword-research-using-free-tools It suggests a number of different tools to generate new keywords. Also have a look for my comment about running a search to get Google to indicate which page best suits the keyword in question (by limiting the search to your site) Hope this helps, Dan

How to link blog posts to web pages
Is it an internal blog ? What I mean to ask is if the blog is something like blog.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com/blog or is it yourblog.com linking to yourdomain.com ? Is it hosted on the same IP as your main website ? What you are blogging, is it unique, quality/fresh content ? If yes, I wouldn't worry too much about anchor text links as long as you are not pushing for the same keyword link from each and every post. So if article1 is talking about Red widgets and linking to the Red widgets page and then article2 is talking about Blue Widgets and linking to the Blue Widgets, it's fine. Just make sure you have other natural links coming to your website/blog from other places as well...specially the kinds that build themselves (people loving your content and linking to you). I hope this helps.

How to save links from an old website when building a new website even if the site map changes?
I've used this Redirection plugin a couple times on smaller sites, makes it about as easy as possible.

How effective are online press releases for SEO purposes?
A service like pr web is very good for well written and targeted releases. It's ability to target specific journalists and niches can mean you get decent secondary coverage on niche sites e.g the last pr I wrote got covered by a local news site. Links on many pr sites themselves are worth next to nothing as google must have them on their panda/penguin radar.

Re april 5th post on over optimization - need clarification blogging
Just to keep it natural so if you were to read it out loud to others it wouldn't sound odd. Just make sure you avoid hundreds of links with the same keyword specific anchor text. When you come to linking to your static pages, try and think about more than just getting those keywords into the anchor text for the search engines - also think about the real people reading your blog articles - make sure your anchor text properly describes what they will find if they click on the links. If you/re trying to move your human visitors towards your offerings then think about making your anchor text compelling and trying to get the benefits of your offering in there somewhere. Good luck!
