I totally agree with Gyi. If you are not getting any response, you are not presenting any value to the recipient, or you made it into their junk box. I would reply once and if you don't get a response, adjust your strategy and move on.

RE: When going about asking a site for a link on their page, how do you ask?
Trevor,
It sounds like you are having trouble with the outreach part of Link Building. Here is a great WBF video that Tom did back in February on this topic: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/outreach-for-linkbuilding-whiteboard-friday
Also, remember in general when link building you have to give something away to get something in return. You have to figure out ways to help that site (webmaster) out and build a relationship with them. Find broken links, refer great content that would help there site, things like this. There are tons of SEO's out there that have the "me first" mentality and that will not take you very far. Build the relationship then pitch.

RE: Link Building Strategy
EGOL said it perfectly, "Linking building is the most challenging part of SEO for most people." If you are new to link building, it might be best to outsource this to someone who knows what they are doing. The negative repercussions for doing a cheap fast job could really hurt your business in the long run.
However, with the warning aside, you can always start by obtain your competitors backlinks, but you have to be careful. Not every link your competitor has is a good links, and being able to sift out the crap links from the good ones takes time and experience.

RE: What is the difference between the link count on OSE and Linkscape?
James,
Are the 1,200 links Unique linking Domains and the 100,000 link the total incoming links to your site? You might want to double check and make sure your are not comparing unique linking domains with total links to your site.

RE: Footer sitewide links
Chas,
In general having the same kind of links coming to your site does make your backlink profile less organic and Google will probably devalue some of them. Also, Google in general devalues footer links.
There are 12 types of links: (http://www.stuntdubl.com/2006/08/21/link-types/ here is a link to a blog post by stuntdubl) This post was published in 2006, so I would add social media links to it, but other than that the info is good.
- Authority links
- Directory links
- Reciprocal links
- Run of site links
- One way links from friends or related sites
- Edu and .Gov links
- Radio station, television, magazine, or newspaper links
- Press release links
- Article bio links
- RSS/ Blog aggregated links
- Comment and Profile Links
- Presell Page Links
If 90% of your links coming to your site are run of site links at the bottom of your page, you could probably benefit from diversifying your blacklinks. Read through the post and start coming up with some strategies to get different types of links to your site. One idea is to change a couple of your run of site links to a Presell Page Links. This could help you get some more value out of the run of site links, IF majority of the links coming to your site are run of site links.
However, that being said I would take any kind of .edu link that I could get.
I hope this helps,

RE: Backlink booster - boosts and helps to index links?
Shehzad,
First off, no I have not used software like this. Now I am assuming that using Backlink Boster is going to be your main link building strategy, so I am basing my following suggestions off of this idea. Usually, if you are getting a link from a site and it is not getting index fast, there is a good chance it’s a low quality link. You will not get very much value out of a link that is having a hard time getting index. So my question for you is, why spend so much time getting low quality links to your site? You can spend the same amount of time and maybe get 1 or 2 quality links and it will bring much more value to your site. You will get more authority, link juice & quality traffic from the 1 to 2 high quality links. Now, with all that said I would still be very careful using Backlink Boster, I looked at their site and there techniques look a very automated and spamy (maybe spamy is too strong of a word). After looking through there how Backlink Boster works page, I would say there is a good chance Google and most of the other major search engines have already flagged majority of the sites they are using in their network as low quality. If I was you, I would spend my time getting the high quality links from the authority sites in your industry.
I hope this helps,
Cyle
P.S here is a link to Backlink Booster's how it works page so everyone can give their opinion on the tool. http://www.backlinkbooster.com/7000-How_it_Works.asp

RE: Is there a problem with Weekly Ranking report this week?
I see you ranking #2 in the SERPs for that term.

RE: Is there a problem with Weekly Ranking report this week?
Anthony,
What is the name of your site?
thanks,
Cyle

RE: Is there a problem with Weekly Ranking report this week?
Anthony, check and see if it is the same URL you have set up to track in the weekly report as you see in the SERPs. The same thing happened to me the other day, but it was just Google replaced my current ranking page with a different category page on my site. So, i was still ranking in the same position, but for a different page on my site.
i hope this helps,

RE: Bounce rate
After looking at your site for about 5 min, I am still not sure what you do. A lot of info about your site is below the fold, and I don’t think people will scroll down to read it. In general you have 10 sec to convince your customer that your site is relevant to their search quarry. My guess is that your site is not convincing people that you are relevant to their search.
I would start testing this by looking in your analytics software and seeing what term is driving the most traffic to your site and making changes that will help communicate relevance for that term. Try to make the path to your conversion goal as simple and easy to follow as possible. You can use Google Website Optimizer to test these changes: <cite>www.google.com/websiteoptimizer</cite>
There is no quick answer to your problem; this will be process of digging into your analytics and testing new idea to see if they are helping you achieve your business objectives.
Also, I didn’t see any event tracking set up on your flash banner. I would defiantly set that up so you can track how many people are clicking on your flash banner and which images they are clicking on. If you are using Google Analytics here is a link: http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/tracking/eventTrackerGuide.html
If you are using a different Analytics software, just contact your provider and ask them about this.
I hope this helps,
Cyle
