Thanks again for your help!
Thanks Oleg!!!
-f is for file and -d is for directory, correct?
I found a 5 hour course on Lynda.com on RegEx so I'll be doing that this evening.
Thanks again for your quick response. Much appreciated!!!
I'm going to have to do a rule, aren't I? Basically to include (faq|faq.php) or something like that, huh? So a RewriteRule is going to have to be used instead of Redirect or RedirectMatch.
Please help!
Hey!
I am having a tough time figuring this out, and I have already signed up for my RegEx course. So in the mean time, could you please help me?
I have two old URLs:
/faq
/faq.php
The new one is /faqs
How can I write a 301 redirect to include faq & faq.php in the same line? I basically want to capture /faq and anything beyond the q including the .php.
I thought this would work:
Redirect 301 /faq. http://www.blah.com/faqs
Using the period to catch everything after the q and redirect it to the /faqs page.
Extra credit: And why Redirect 301 vs. RedirectMatch 301? It is an Apache server and mod_ rewrite is on.
Thanks in advance!
Yes, thank you. We size them all to what we want on the site so we are good there. Just got done doing it, and it did make a difference. Thanks guys!
Perfect-O! I completely get it now. Thanks Paul. You da man!
I thought it would be faster as in my mind it was more to read, but now that I understand the loading, I get it. Guess I need to start researching how a website loads. Have any resources I can read, to up my experience with this?
I've been in development but on an application side not website side.
Currently working on a sitespeed issue, and was wondering if not having width and height for images actually do cause a problem. We simply Photoshop the resolution we require for the image and add it to the page as is. I though this would actually speed it up, but I am getting from www.gtmetrix.com that we should have them.
What's your experience? Thanks!
Yes, we do some "how tos" and how muches". Was just worried about DA if we turn up the frequency. Thanks again for your insight!
You're saying your new image has the old name?
Thanks Content King!
We're just going to have to get creative. If someone has already reported it as news then we are no longer in the unique, original department. For example, if a company announces a new product, we'll report it. But so is everyone else...
Guess if they want the gold, they're going to have to pay with gold. lol
Thanks meme.
This is an interesting niche. We've shared tips, but seem to be running out of them. Now we're getting more into the providing news arena. Nothing news worthy in their niche, but plenty in the element they provide the service for.
So you are basically saying, if the content just sits, it won't do anything for us which may result in a lower domain authority. We need some sharing or content marketing going on with each and every piece we write.
Guess we're just going to have to get a little more creative.
Are the images ranking because of the page or because of the image?
As we continue our content marketing efforts, and increase the frequency of posting to the blog, would this impact our domain authority?
We are assuming that when you add new pages, their low authority contribute to decreasing the domain's authority. Is this the case?
It might not hurt a big site like SEOmoz that's already in the 90's. What about a site in the 20-30 range?
It's the king of content himself! It's been awhile. Hope things are great with you!
I think I'll take the "bite my lip" approach then deep breath then try to explain it one more time. Wish me luck!
Thanks Greg!
I educate until I'm blue in the face then they read some black hat strategy, go look at their SERPs, and see it working for their competitors. LOL
But yes, preaching the long term is what it's all about.
You're two cents is worth a dollar, my friend!
Here's the thing. There is no limit to buying LLCs. So if they match the domain to the LLC, how in the world will Google be even able to detect the manipulative brands that are brands but not really brands.
Thanks again!
Let me add that they will also buy the LLC to match the domain...
Fantastic day!
I am seeing exact match domains still dominating. SEOmoz has some insight: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/exact-match-domains-are-far-too-powerful-is-their-time-limited
But that's from two years ago. Is Google ever going to target the manipulators that buy up all the exact match domains?
One of our partners is getting the itch, and I am running out of explanations on why we don't manipulate. But if these practices are dominating their industry, what to do? I have to get paid to feed the family so just telling the client buh-bye isn't going to work. At least not in this stage of agency building.
Their root domain doesn't do much for them, however, you know we well optimize those subdomains and rank those fine.
But if my client can just buy an exact match domain, and it will take less SEO work to get it ranked then why not? He has the SEO expert in his back pocket to clean up the mess IF they would even get a penalty or drop in rank.
Is all SEO really is find algo hole, manipulate, penalty, fix, find algo hole, manipulate, penalty, fix. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
Please share your experiences and insight!
Thanks,
Ben
You have to deprogram the "bath room wall" their reading out there in Internetland. Been there. Done that. lol
Content marketing is probably the most effective from what I've seen. That's for sure.
Talk to you later!
I guess it is what it is. It gives us a better opportunity for sure. Just don't like the negativity it gives to those clients about our industry.
Talk to you later. Now get back to work!
