Hi Guys,

I have a question relating to Z-Blocks in Magento.

Our Magento store uses a lot of Z-Blocks, these are bits of content that are switched off and on depending on a customer’s user group. This allows us to target different offers and content to new customers (not logged in) and existing customers (logged in).

Does anyone have any experience in how this impacts SEO?

Would this mean that the sitemap featured at www.domain.com would need to reference each directory version (UK & US etc etc), leaving the en-gb & en-us to reference just their own?

I have a site that has now been launched in the US having originally just been UK. In order to accommodate this, the website has been set-up using directories for each country. Example:

• domain.com/en-gb
• domain.com/en-us

As the site was originally set-up for UK, the sitemap, robots file & Webmaster Tools account were added to the main domain. Example:

• domain.com/sitemap.xml
• domain.com/robots.txt

The question is does this now need changing to make it specific for each country. Example:

The sitemap and robots.txt for the UK would move to:

• domain.com/en-gb/sitemap.xml
• domain.com/en-gb/robots.txt

and the US would have its own separate sitemap and robots.txt. Example :

• domain.com/en-us/sitemap.xml
• domain.com/en-us/robots.txt

Also in order to Geolocate this in WMT would this need to be done for each directory version instead of the main domain? Currently the WMT account for the UK site is verified at www.domain.com, would this need reverifying at domain.com/en-gb?

I have had a look through this before and I suppose the reason I asked the original question was because I consider the Metas to be very similar and not quite duplicated. So its a big of a grey area.

As there is doubt, I think I will remove all Metas for now.

Hi All,

Just a quick question regarding Meta Descriptions, I am currently looking at a site where an awful lot of the Meta descriptions are similar (not 100% duplicated). The reason being is that the site contains a lot of the same products, but different weights. For example a 500g, 1kg & 2kg version of the same product. Therefore the Metas are same, apart from the weight that's being discussed.

In my opinion the duplication is probably a little too close. Do you think in this circumstance its better to have no Meta descriptions defined at all?

Its my understanding that htaccess is PHP based and as we code in .net we don't have a htaccess file.

Do you know of this this happening before because its not something that I've heard of.

Hi,

A development site that has been set-up has the following Robots.txt file:

User-agent: *

Disallow: /

In an attempt to block Google indexing the site, however this isn't the case and the development site has since been indexed.

Any clues why this is or what I could do to resolve it?
