Thanks very much for the link. I might just have to test this with a dormant domain and see if it works, but my worry is that the command to redirect the whole domain will override the commands to redirect the individual pages.

The old site is small, only 100 pages or so, and about 10 of them are particularly useful. I would like to 301 those 10 pages to 10 similar pages on the new site, and also 301 the other 90 pages to the new site... the new site's home page, I suppose.

Does it make sense to do this and if so how?

I think if I simply 301 the whole of the old domain to the new one, the juice will be shared among the new site's page equally which is not what I want. I know where the htaccess file is and I can 301 a page within a domain but I'm at a loss with this. Thanks for any help.

I have a page that ranks 5 and to get a rich snippet I'm thinking of adding a relevant video to the page. Thing is, the video is already on another page which ranks for this keyword... but only at position 20. As it happens the page the video is on is the more important page for other keywords, so I won't remove it. Will having the same video on two pages be considered a duplicate?

I use broad match for about 0.3% of my keywords. I tend to use both phrase and exact for each keyword. Is you use phrase, make sure to the "keyword details" drop down to see what terms are being used so that you can create some new exact matches and negative keywords. Exact matches seem to have a better quality score on the whole.

Most people get to the end of my videos, 85% or so, but there's no call to action at the end of them. So I'd like to suggest what they could do or read next; along the lines of 'Add to basket and receive your XYZ tomorrow'. This will make the video longer and therefore google will know it has changed, I guess. I see no reason for them to object to this but you never you.

Amazon appear to use a different url once the reviews link is clicked which perhaps detracts from the seo efforts of the product page?

I will continue to add keywords to the page in the natural way I have been, and add markup to reviews section to make it clear that's what it is. I will cut scema markup from my want list and paste it to my need list.

One thing to say about the product page, I suppose, is that because of new reviews, it will get more content over time whereas the others won't get additional content.

@ 8 is a blog about a youtube video review a customer made of the product. Blog title includes keyword

@ 9 is the product page itself and includes a rich snippet video

@ 15 is a blog about the product by an independent professional in the field - again the blog title contains the keyword.

The page I want to rank highest is the product page which is currently at position 9.

If it were you would you delete the keyword from the blog titles? Or is that just going to lose me those blog results and do little/nothing for the product page.

My seomoz report has warned me about 38 occurrences of a keyword on a page, is that always too many? 19 of them are in my reviews tab, "I love KEYWORD", etc. I expect to get more reviews and more keyword mentions. If I had to keep that page to 15 or fewer, I would have no reviews tab.

I've managed to 301 everything except that pesky %20 url, perhaps because of the %20 or perhaps because that's also the only one in a folder.

Here's what's worked for simple urls such as www.site.com/old-page

RewriteRule ^old-page$ http://www.site.com/new-page  [R=301,L]

But the same format for the %20 hasn't worked:

RewriteRule ^/products/product-name%20$ http://www.site.com/products/new-url [R=301,L]

I think this is the culprit:

Thanks for the reply. I tried it but it didn't work, but I given incorrect info in the question, which is now corrected. I had said other 301 were working fine when in fact they weren't. Those without %20 are redirecting to an odd hybrid of urls.

After some searching, I think this has something to do with the drupal CMS and the rules it creates in htaccess.

I have a product page that ends /product-name**%20** that I'm trying to redirect in this way:

Redirect 301 /products/product-name%20 http://www.site.com/products/product-name

And it doesn't redirect at all. The others, those with %20, are being redirected to a url hybrid of old and new: http://www.site.com/products/product-name**?q=old-url**

I'm using Drupal CMS, and it may be creating rules that counter my entries.

I was wondering whether I needed to redirect individual pages, it makes sense that I would.

There are 6 important pages on the site with one-to-one relationships with the new site, and quite a few pages besides, but webmaster tools is telling me there are 100 indexed pages and 700 crawled but not indexed pages.  There are not 100 valuable pages on the site, and I think the not-indexed is because the cart has dynamically created all those urls.

I suppose I just need to determine which pages are worthwhile redirecting individually. Oddly, seomoz site explorer is giving me two top pages. How else might I determine the top pages?
