Improving Search Rankings in other Countries for an existing site
If those directories are the multilingual versions of the same English pages, be sure to use the rel="alternative" hreflang tags. In addition, obtaining links from more local websites would help you rank better in their respective google.tlds Can't really comment on GWT but I don't think you need to do anything fancy. Just make sure you don't have a specific region targeted (i.e. if you target just USA, it would worsen your international rankings).

Mitigating duplicate page content on dynamic sites such as social networks and blogs.
You can disallow these sections in your robots.txt to cut out all these. However, they can still show are URL only in search results. In order to completely remove them, you need to add noindex tags to the header of each pages. I'm assuming that these are created dynamically with a template that you should be able to add the nofollow. But be careful that you only add them to the pages you want!

Does using parentheses affect the crawlers?
I have the same question about inserting parentheses for a keyword like this: (Cannabidiol) I do believe Google bot can crawl and index correctly the word "Cannabidiol" even if it's inside parentheses and even if it's a meta tag (title or description). Is there anybody who could test this by optimizing a page with a focus keyword used in parentheses and had good ranking for that keyword (without parentheses)? Thanks
