I know a lot of them for local citations, but I'm wondering if there is a list somewhere of ones that include a link.

Our articles are written by a professional in the field, taylored to what we think our ecommerce customers would most want to know about.

But there is no traffic to our articles and almost no inbound links.

We have 15 articles around 500 words (roughly) each. We've got a right sidebar banner about our FAQ and articles and a rotating banner with one slde about our articles. Also, we have a tab at the top. We've had a good article section for 5 months, and a descent one for a couple of years

Could it be our industry, or what can we do?

It looks like my coworker listed us as 2 different companies in G places with an old address. What a mess.

What would be the best white hat way to clean this up?

Still, I'm sure that one matters more than the other - which is more important if all links are the same quality (high quality):

I only submit to general directories that are extremely strong - DMOZ, Best of the Web, Yahoo Directory.

But I do submit to all fairly strong, fairly high quality niche directories that any competitor is listed under.

Is this completely white hat and useful now and in the future? I don't want to be penalized. I do try to get a variety of links as well as the niche directories.

When skoping for how to beat competitors, do I need to aim to beat the linking root domains number or the total links?

Or do I need to think about both?

Why can't we move up above 5th place organically for "NLP Utah" keywords when we are stronger?

We are first in google organically for "NLP San Francisco"

We are first in google local results for "NLP San Francisco"

Our address is only listed on the contact us page and it is a Salt Lake City Address

Our phone and fax are Utah numbers, and we also have an international number, all on only the contact us page.

We can't lose our rankings for the California keywords, local or organic, since these are our main traffic words.

We want to rank 1st for Utah keywords in both local and organic. Currently we don't rank for local "NLP Salt Lake City" and we're 5th for "NLP Utah" related keywords.

If necessary, we may be able to get a NAP of both utah and california, but I'm not sure on that - any ideas on how to inexpensively acquire a california address and a california phone number would be useful, and can the california phone number forward to the Utah office?

What's the solution?

Mining the competition's backlinks is a good tool in the prospecting toolbox, but you're also going to have to find a lot of links of your own as well in most cases, to have a shot of ranking up near where the competition ranks.<<

If you don't mind, could you list the ways to find backlinks besides

2. mining competitor's backlinks' backlinks

I'm slowly finding backlinks for our niche site.

90% of the competition is using internal pages so mining competitors is hard.

I'm mining sites that are in the backlinks of my competitors.

Question:

In cases like this, what percentage of the time do you think that it is possible to find enough backlinks to rank in the top 3?

For example, is there always enough backlinks to rank high enough? Is there only enough half the time? I know this is a general question but maybe you could try the answer it followed by a statement of "why I gave this answer"

For our site:

nlpca(dot)com

we have 2 locations. One location is based out of a hotel in California, and one location is where we have our offices in Utah.

Our site is about both locations, emphisizing California. Do we need to create a Utah page and put the Utah NAD on that page with separate address and phone number? What do we use as an address since we only have a hotel room in California now? What do we need to do to rank for both in the natural and also Places listings?

Right now we're #1 for NLP California and #4 for NLP Utah

Oh I see. You misinterpreted my question

We need 100 strong backlinks for our site to rank at all in our industry (probably more). But all our competitors are using internal pages so they don't have much to sort through in OSE.
