I apologize for the delayed reply, I just got to these steps on my own domain referral (took longer than expected)

Take the first example I posted up here:

First, on the beginning of the post it links back to http://www.seomoz.org/blog/video-seo-basics-whiteboard-friday-11080, which is there redirected to moz.com equivalent page. This seems like a wasted step unless it is on purpose.

Secondly, it has lots of social shares and the number count is taken from the original MOZ posts.

Just "view source" and search for: "Get your social on" and you'll see the following:

Should I NOFOLLOW my "Add To Cart" buttons?

My e-commerce site has hundreds of products. Content wise, there is no real value to the reader on that page (besides for some testimonials and "why here" sentences). So it is not a page you'd want / expect to find in the SERPs.

Also, with hundreds of links pointing to this page it would be "stronger" than other important pages which doesn't make sense.

Last but not least, if I have limited time that the bots are on my site, why keep sending them to a non important page.

This is why I am leaning to nofollowing the "add to cart" buttons and looking for reinforcements.

We are also not based in North America so we cannot apply BBB badges.

About increase or decrease in conversions I also encountered studies going both ways (though the increase seems more definite than the decrease). I assume that if it is shown delicately and not boldly (as the badges companies suggest) it does the trick (having those who look for it find it and not the other way around).

I Also just encountered a nice piece about improving shopping cart experience and they suggested on doing it as a part of the design - implicitly adding confidence that made sense:

I still have one/two open issues...

I see that on the old pages you left the social buttons pointing to the old original seomoz pages.

Random examples:

Why is that? Wouldn't it be better to gain new likes and shares on the new pages (after all the articles are still visited from the SERPS)?

Also, I noticed that on those old articles you did not change the internal links.
Same question, wouldn't it be better to link them to the new pages instead of an old page that redirects them?

May I ask then what would you do with a shopping cart page?

It usually receives params in the URL so I generally add rel=canonical to the page without the params (which still holds some basic information like random testimonial, guarantee etc.).

Another option is to place everything in cookies (and therefore not using params and no need for canonical). But this is bit more complex and cookie dependent.

My images are already optimized but 200 7kb images take longer to load than 1 1.5mb image. The fact that it loads the same gray pixel gif for 190 images saves lots of time.

I played with the JQuery lazy load and got the page speed up from 50 mobile & 64 desktop to first load (there is also caching) all the way up to 69 mobile and 84 desktop (google speed test).

Even with the caching there is about 10 points difference. (approx 75 and 90).

There is also a difference in the user experience even though it is mostly felt in first time mobile users...

I have an eCommerce website with pages that are filled with images -
on some 100-200 small images (6-10KB)

I have used similar lazy load solution using scripts in order to provide better experience and faster load speed but the downside of problematic src attribute (meaningless) is obvious.

As far as I understand (and please correct me), with CDN, some of the material (like images) is saved in servers all through the globe and therefore get to the client faster.

Does it mean that I need to change my hosting or is it some sort of addon?
Does it have any sort of negative effect on SEO?

There is an easy way to Lazy Load images using JQuery. However this means changing the image's src attribute to nothing and replacing it later on.

Do I understand correctly from your answer that it is not recommended?
(I assume because Google misses these images).

Please advise (and also provide an alternative if there is one for a page with more than 100 images - even though each image is approx 8kb).

I was window shopping at Gemvara and noticed something interesting...

They rank very high for long-tail phrases such as "rose gold engagement rings" and in their pagination pages for that category not only they filled canonical to the main category page (which is logic) but also they "NOINDEX NOFOLLOW" the pages...

Is that recommended?

The only other way I see to maintain order and shorten the filename is to place them within folders:

domain.com/images/products/category-name/product-title.jpg

VS

domain.com/images/products/product-title-product-category.jpg

But then I can have several exact same file-names (that are placed on different categories)

For management reasons files are named in length to have the product details in them.
Is there a limit for a filename length before it is considered ambiguous or spammy etc.?
(it usually ranges 50-70 chars).

Is the answer in the programming of the site (for example through the web.config) or something to do in the IIS (which means the hosting company should do it...?) ?

Also, caching only helps the second time the same user loads the page doesn't it?

Thanks for the explanation and examples.
Keeping the same look and feel does make perfect sense.

However, Overstock is actually a good point, they have dozens of "menu links" on the blog which disburse the link juice of the in-article links to practically nothing (being divided between so many pages).

When you look on a specific post inside TripAdvisror each link has a meaning, has power.

Don't you think Overstock is killing the power of the blog posts?

Should my eCommerce site's blog have menu links to the store's category pages? (like in the store itself)

The meaning is that every blog post page will have links to category pages that are not related and probably weakens the in-text relevant links.

The other option is to have menu links only to the blog category pages and in-article links to the relevant store category pages (maybe add menu button "Go to Store").
