Looking for a reporting tool
DashThis works great for this - it’s integrated with over 30 different sources (Google Analytics, Adwords, Moz, Ahrefs, and a lot more), and it has a ton of adaptable features… but… it’s really easy to use. You just need to plug your data sources into it, build your report, and you’re good to go - the report will update itself automatically whenever you need it to. You can even schedule automatic email dispatches of your reports so that the system does the work for you. You can explore some more details about our SEO reporting tool features We’re an easy-to-use but powerful tool, but our true strength is our customer service. We’ve been known to get up in the middle of the night to help someone on the other side of the world… because they’re already in the middle of their work day and we don’t want them to wait for anything! There are a multitude of tools like ours (for different needs, budgets, etc), and a quick search can get you at least a dozen. Most offer free trials (ours does), so it’s important to get a feel for the tool to make sure it’s what you want and you feel comfortable with it. But, again, ideally, it should almost be like a “set-it-and-forget-it” kind of thing! Disclaimer: I work for DashThis - but I wouldn’t love it any less if I didn’t!

Flat architecture or deep folders?
Hi Bill, You are rightly worried about the change in category structure, the structure earlier looks better than new structure of category page URL (before it was website.com/product-category/product-sub-category will now be website.com/more generic category/product-category/new-subcategory/product-category ). The idea of right page URL structure should be to keep the length of URL in control and also give show the right directory structure to the search engines. It seems with the new structure you can get lengthy URLs and also repeat lot of keywords within the URL. Having said that, you should read these two articles for further help https://moz.com/blog/15-seo-best-practices-for-structuring-urls https://moz.com/learn/seo/url I hope this helps, feel free to respond and ask further. Regards, Vijay

When you can't see the cache in search, is it about to be deindexed?
Hey BCutrer, Just wanted to make sure you'd seen a good solution to this and everything was deindexed properly? I haven't heard anyone mention the lack of a cached version as a sign of deindexation about to occur, but would be curious if you still think that was the case. I would sooner guess that noarchive was placed on those pages.

Is there a downside of an image coming from the site's dotted quad and can it be seen as a duplicate?
I don't see why that would have any negative effect whatsoever, but at the same time it shouldn't be very difficult to change the image source to the actual url instead of the server's ip address.

Is Google not Penalizing aggressively anymore for on page manipulation?
I would be very surprised that the hidden text is actually working, and I would think that google is just ignoring it and other factors are making it rank. Something like font size = 0 or same colour as the background, would be so easily picked up by a bot/algorithm compared to some complex things it can pickup on.

Instagram # not working
Facebook and Instagram both have filters of sorts that won't allow the visibility you'd like. Has to do with trust factors and the sheer volume of people posting. Idk how new or old your clients instagram is but that may make a difference. Also if you're not on top of what facebook has been trying to do it the world of cutting back on free impressions you should read up on it. Sorry for not having an article to post

Raven Reporting Alternative
Moz Analytics will likely have many of the features you're looking for, but unfortunately custom reporting is still a few months off. At the lower price points (non-enterprise) there's not a ton of good reporting options out there, and most folks I suspect do something similar to what you're doing now - Cut and Paste different reports together into something that hopefully looks semi-professional. Look for the new custom reports to launch this fall (fingers crossed)

Do you Feel Street View for inside a local business is a ranking factor for the local algorithm?
Hi Bill, My pleasure...and, yes, correlation is probably not causation in this scenario. Probably lots of other factors at play. I hope there will be more documentation and commentary on this topic soon. The slideshows are pretty neat. But, as you say, the price is somewhat hefty.
