I also have an old site with around 1000 posts and also around 4000 products and just use categories. It is quite difficult to arrange everything and I was wondering how do you do it.

In fact you just have categories in sidebar and then "sections" in the main menu so user can nav in your site.

As I see it, the important thing is usability and easing the navigation. "urls" dont mind so much.

I have been checking seomoz sourcecode and architecture these days in order to learn and to apply it in my site but I havent managed to find "tags" at all. Just the "Posts by Categories" on the right sidebar. Is this the only way you are categorising content?

In this case, the only way spiders have to find your content is via these category archive pages and the general sitemap?

I had all the content of my product reviews in the product url ie

/computer-brand-y-intel-i5/

and there I wrote my reviews and users did the same thing, attached images, etc

Now, I have been proposed to do it this way.

/computer-brand-y-intel-i5/ (here, the main specifications)

/computer-brand-y-intel-i5/review/

/computer-brand-y-intel-i5/user-reviews/

/computer-brand-y-intel-i5/multimedia/

Many other websites have the same specifications so with my reviews etc I enriched the main url.

What do you think is the best option to go?

in many niches you can make reviews with the "Best XXXX of March of 2011" "Best XXXX of April 2011" " March 2012" etc

So, per instances, "best movies of march 2011" what would you do?

A. 1 post for each mont and year

/movies-march-2011/

/movies-april-2011/

/movies-march-2012/

B. 1 post/page for each year and keep updating

/movies-march/

/movies-april/

B.I. Keep in the content the best movies of each year with a TOC or something similar

B.II. Remove each year the previous content and create a fresh version of the content, updating the publication date but keeping the slug.

My question is because I managed to ranked first for i.e. movies march 2010 but then in march 2011 I didnt know what to do because I wanted to show updated content but I was afraid i lost my ranking if I changed the whole content.

Would you go for A. or B.? If B. for B.I. or B.II.?

I just lunched a website where you have to sign up and to log in in order to use it. So I have the home, also a blog but then the rest of the pages are let's say it "hidden".How would you do the seo for it?

I have been cheking facebook, foursquare and some others and they use different approaches. Facebook uses the same description in every single page for example.

My site is similar to foursquare users have profile, stats, history, ranking. Well, what is your advice??

Where Rand suggest me to do the canonical thing I am explaining here. So my doubt is why it is indexing the new post better than the old one and how this is supposed to work.

From my understanding and also from your link, if I use rel=canonical is the "canonical" url the one that has to be indexed and not the one with "rel=canonical" but it has not been my case and now I have both indexed...

Any suggestion?

Is it the opposite. The new one has a rel=canonical to the old one because it was written with the same content that the old one but then it appears in the index.

Then the new one has been indexed and I thought it wasnt going to be indexed. But at the same time it ranks much higger than the old one...

May be this is evident for you but, what is really doing the canonical? If I publish something with the canonical pointing to another page, will it still be indexed by google but with no penalty for duplicate content? Or the usual behaviour should have been to havent indexed the first post but just the second one?

Should I also place a noindex in the first post in addition to the canonical?

What am I missing here?

That would been even technically easier to implement I think.

Just the last thing, I am confused with the canonical here. What should i use in the blog reviews?

1. meta=Noindex,follow and rel=canonical to the product page

2. meta=Index,follow and rel=canonical to the product page

I dont know if I have to index those posts.

I believe that is the way to go but the point is that my site is a blog based one and then I am going to introduce a comparator with a huge product database. Therefore, I still would like to display in my home my reviews that then are automatically sent in my daily mailchimp rss newsletter and to my rss suscribers. That was my point of having two separated posts.

Thinking about it, I think this could be a solution:

1. Use a custom taxonomy as Justin Tadlock recommends http://justintadlock.com/archives/2011/01/14/rethinking-how-news-themes-work

2. Display in the home just the posts with the "Review" property and using the dhtml script you said above or a "more text" hiding the "automatted content"

What do you think about this?

But I will always have more automatted than custom so i think that "vice versa" is not an option.

Anyhow, I don't really see how to do it in WP? Do you have any idea?
